Enhancements

The BMC PATROL for Amazon Web Services has been enhanced with the following new features:

New parameters

The following new parameters have been added in this release:

• VolumeThroughputPercentage parameter in AWS_EBS application class

• VolumeConsumedReadWriteOpsp parameter in AWS_EBS application class

• DiskQueueDepth parameter in AWS_RDS application class

• FreeableMemory parameter in AWS_RDS application class

• SwapUsage parameter in AWS_RDS application class

New menu commands

The following menu commands have been added to the AWS_ACCOUNT application class:

• TOP EC2s
• Region TOP EC2s

 Monitoring Amazon Web Services using BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration Console

 With version 1.2.00 of BMC PATROL for AWS and version 9.5.00 of PATROL Agent, you can configure accounts provided by Amazon Web Services by using version 9.5.00 of the BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration console. This improves administrative efficiency and effectiveness by allowing configuration of web services and accounts provided by Amazon Web Services by using BMC ProactiveNet policies.

Downloading the installation utility and the product files

This section provides information for downloading PATROL for Amazon Web Services 1.2.00 from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

1. Create a directory for the downloaded files.

2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
7. You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
   • Using Component View
   • Using License Products View

Using Component View

1. In the Filter Products field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
2. Click Go.

3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
   
   

   Note

   You can use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.5.00 or later.

4. In the Version: list, select 9.5.00, and click Go.

5. In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

6. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager.
   • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
   • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
     This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
7. Click <<Back to Product List.
8. In the Filter Products field, type PATROL for Amazon Web Services.
9. Click Go.
10. In the right pane, click PATROL for Amazon Web Services.
11. In the Version list, select 1.2.00, and click Go.

12. In the Product tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

13. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager.

14. Complete the installation procedure as described in the Installing section.

Using Licensed Products View

1. Click Go To Licensed Products View.
2. Locate BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
3. Locate BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite 9.5.00, locate and expand BMC Server Monitoring and Analytics Version 9.5.00.

4. Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.5.00 to show the available files.
   
   

   Note

    You can use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.5.00 or later.

5. Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platforms.

7. Expand BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
8. Expand BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite 9.5.00, locate and expand BMC Server Monitoring and Analytics Version 9.5.00.
9. Expand the PATROL for Amazon Web Services 1.2.00 component to show the available files.

10. Select the check box next to the patches, based on the appropriate platform.
