Installing

The TrueSight Operations Management solution comprises various components, such as TrueSight Presentation Server, TrueSight Infrastructure Management, and so on. Depending on your license entitlements, you can download and install the relevant components.

The installation process requires you to complete your planning activities before starting the preparatory, installation, and post-installation tasks. The installation flow diagram and the process table enable you to install the solution smoothly.

TrueSight Operations Management installation process — At a glance

Installation process

In a test environment, you can  Install the TrueSight Operations Management components on a single computer Open link . Follow the guidelines to avoid conflicts in the port numbers between the components.

In a production environment, follow the sequence below. If your license does not entitle you to certain components, or if you are not installing certain components, skip that step and proceed to the next. 

You need to install Remedy SSO followed by the Presentation Server to create a basic setup. After that, you can install the data providers, such as Infrastructure Management, App Visibility manager, etc., based on your license entitlements to complete the solution installation.

Step 1: Complete the planning activities

As an IT architect or Solution Administrator, use this information to plan a new deployment of TrueSight Operations Management.

Complete the pre-installation tasks to ensure a successful installation.

Best practice

You must download, install, and run the TrueSight Health Check Tool to generate an HTML report that lists the actual and recommended values for parameters such as OS settings, database, logs, configuration files, and so on in your TrueSight Operations Management environment before you install or upgrade.


Step 3: Install Remedy Single Sign-On

Remedy Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO) acts as the authentication tool to manage tenants (realms), user groups, and users for TrueSight Presentation Server and other TrueSight components.

DescriptionProcedure

Remedy SSO can be installed using one of the following installers:

  • TrueSight Installer (recommended)
  • Remedy SSO Installer

Based on the decision you made in the Planning step, choose the applicable installer.

You can install Remedy Single Sign-On in standalone or high-availability mode. Both these options are available in wizard-based and silent modes.

Installation of Remedy SSO is done in two phases:

  • Phase A: Installation of the Remedy SSO component
  • Phase B: Setting up the Remedy SSO server

TrueSight installer for Remedy SSO 11.3.02

TrueSight installer for Remedy SSO (consolidated installer) version is not available for 11.3.02 or 11.3.03It is available for versions 11.0.00 and 11.3.01 only.  However, you can directly upgrade Remedy SSO to a later version.




Step 4: Install TrueSight Presentation Server

The TrueSight Presentation Server provides the framework and console for all TrueSight Operations Management implementations. The TrueSight Presentation Server hosts the web-based TrueSight console, and consumes data from various TrueSight components to provide a consolidated set of views for monitoring infrastructure, real and synthetic applications, and capacity planning. It also enables you to perform functions such as role-based access control and data management.

As the Presentation Server forms the hub of the operations management environment, you must install it before installing the other licensed components.

You can install the Presentation Server in a standalone or high-availability mode. Both these options are available in wizard-based and silent modes.

Step 5: Install TrueSight Infrastructure Management (if licensed)

TrueSight Infrastructure Management provides an integrated platform for service availability and performance management of your IT environment.

Infrastructure Management Server can be installed with Oracle or SAP SQL Anywhere.

You can install Infrastructure Management Server in a standalone, high-availabilty, or OS cluster mode. The standalone option is available in wizard-based and silent modes.

Installation of Infrastructure Management is done in three phases:

Phase A: Installation of Infrastructure Management Server

Phase B: Installation of the Integration Service and Remote Cell

Phase C: Setting up the Infrastructure Management environment, which involves three tasks

Phase A – Install Infrastructure Management Server using one of these options

Standalone mode

Application high-availability mode

High-availability OS cluster mode

Disaster recovery mode

Phase B – Install Integration Service and Remote Cell using one of these options

Phase C – Set up the Infrastructure Management environment

Step 6: Install TrueSight App Visibility Manager (if licensed)

TrueSight Application Visibility Manager enables application monitoring so that IT Operations can proactively detect and isolate application performance issues from the end-user perspective before they negatively impact business reputation and revenue.

The Application Visibility Manager and Synthetic Transaction Execution Adapter (TEA) agent licenses are separate. The Application Visibility Manager license does not entitle the TEA Agent license, and vice-versa.

DescriptionProcedure

TrueSight Application Visibility Manager has two components:

  • App Visibility server: Provides the infrastructure to proactively analyze data received from monitored applications and end user's browsers. 
    You can install the App Visibility server in a standalone or high-availability mode. Both these options are available in wizard-based and silent modes.
  • Agents: Capture transactions that have latency violations or errors.

Based on your environment, you can install App Visibility agents for Java or .NET to capture information about application transactions from an application server JVM or from Internet Information Services (IIS) worker processes respectively.

The Synthetic Transaction Execution Adapter (TEA) agent monitors the performance and reliability of applications through synthetic (also called robotic ) transactions. If you wish to do synthetic monitoring, install a TEA agent in wizard-based or silent mode.

Installation of Application Visibility Manager is done in two phases:

  • Phase A: Installation of the App Visibility server
  • Phase B: Installation of the licensed agents

Phase A – Install App Visibility Server using one of these options

Standalone mode

High-availability mode

(Optional) Disaster recovery mode

Phase B – Install the licensed agents

Task 1 – Install the App Visibility agent

Task 2 – Install the Synthetic TEA Agent


Step 7: Install Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition (if licensed)

Real End User Experience Monitoring can be used to support your business needs such as: ensuring customer satisfaction by proactively monitoring web application performance and availability from the end-user perspective, measuring service levels, identifying web application problems before customers call for help, and diagnosing and restoring services faster.

You can install the Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition and Cloud Probe in wizard-based or silent mode.

Installation of Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition is done in three phases:

  • Phase A: Installation of Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition
  • Phase B: Installation of Cloud Probe
  • Phase C: Configuring the core components

    Note

    BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition version 11.0.00.002 is the latest version of the component and is compatible with TrueSight Operations Management versions 11.3.01 and later.

Step 8: Install TrueSight IT Data Analytics (if licensed)

TrueSight IT Data Analytics provides a data mining framework for semi-structured and structured machine data such as logs and events.


DescriptionProcedure

TrueSight IT Data Analytics can be installed in single server or multiple server environments.

You can install the product using the wizard-based or the silent mode.

In a single server environment, you can perform a Typical or a Custom installation. In a multiple server environment, you must perform a Custom Installation, which allows you to authenticate users using Remedy Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO).

Step 9: Complete the post-installation activities

Complete the post-installation activities to make your TrueSight Operations Management solution functional.

What next?

  • BMC releases periodic product updates through feature packs and fix packs. Check the  Release notes and notices Open link  section for the latest product updates and apply the ones relevant to your environment.
  • You can upgrade security in your enterprise environment by using TLS 1.2 to communicate with TrueSight Operations Management components.To add the transport layer protection and to secure communication between TrueSight Operations Management components, do the following:
    • Create and import signed certificates Open link  for all the installed TrueSight Operations Management components.  
    • Configure TLS communication Open link  between the TrueSight Operations Management components. 
  • After you complete installing TrueSight Operations Management components, you can extend the product capabilities by integrating Open link it with other BMC products.

    I wanted to install the BMC Impact Integration Web Service and was hoping to find a reference on how to do so here on this page. It is part of TSIM, but there is no link on this page on how to install this component. (sad)
