Operations Management components overview
The TrueSight console provides the interface for monitoring and diagnosing failures and for configuring the Presentation Server that consumes information from the following component products:
- Events and performance data from
- Active applications and performance data from
- Synthetic transactions and performance data generated by the (TEA) Agent
- End-user monitoring dashboard data obtained from
Together, TrueSight Operations Management and its component products deliver holistic views of the IT enterprise from which all users ensure the health of the environment and ensure that Service Level Agreements are met. TrueSight console overview
The following table summarizes the main features of the TrueSight console:
Executives and IT Operations personnel use dashboards to monitor the environment from a specialized view, such as a set of applications or performance graphs related to a critical offering or customer.
|Monitoring||IT Operations personnel use the monitoring views to monitor the infrastructure and application health.|
|Configuration||Solution Administrators and specialists configure the data collected from the component products and the applications monitored.|
|Administration||Solution Administrators configure the component products and integrations to the Presentation Server. The administration functions also include role-based access control to data and features.|

Application health monitoring
IT Operations and specialists use application monitoring to observe the performance and health of active applications, to perform diagnostics, and to trace application transactions. Specialists responsible for understanding how applications will behave before introducing changes in production might generate synthetic transactions to predict application performance and health.
Presentation Server overview
The TrueSight Presentation Server hosts the web-based TrueSight console functions and consumes data from various TrueSight products to provide a consolidated set of views for monitoring the infrastructure, real and synthetic applications, and capacity planning. In addition to data presentation, the Presentation Server performs functions such as role-based access control and data management functions such as storage and persistence.
TrueSight Presentation Server core service
The core service is the main server process that communicates with the data providers and datastore functions. Apache Tomcat is embedded in the core service. The core service includes these services and functions:
- Cache service
- Persistence service
- Event Management service
- Role-based access control (RBAC)
- User and tenant management
- Application Model
- Group management

Presentation Server structure
The following diagram illustrates the relationship of the Presentation Server functions.
|The application layer consists of all the functions that are displayed in the TrueSight console and the Application Programming Interface (APIs) that communicate with the platform layer APIs.|
|platform||The platform layer consists of functions such as messaging, RESTful Web services, role-based access control (RBAC), logging, clustering for high availability, and other core functions that make up the Presentation Server.|

Integrated system authentication with Atrium Single Sign-OnFor system authentication and tenant administration, Operations Management utilizes Atrium Single Sign-On. Atrium Single Sign-On is an authentication system that supports many authentication protocols and provides single sign-on and single sign-off for users of BMC products. Atrium Single Sign-On enables users to present credentials only once for authentication and subsequently be authenticated automatically by every BMC product that is integrated into the system.
