Before upgrading any of the Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition components, it is recommended to stop the Real User Analyzer and Collector component services and backup component data. This is not a requirement before proceeding with a component upgrade but it can ensure that information is not lost if a problem occurs during the upgrade process.

Also, review the system requirements for the Real User Analyzer, Collector, and Cloud Probe.

To receive an activation key file

An activation key is required for the Real User Analyzer component if you are upgrading version 10.5.

You can receive the activation key by contacting BMC Customer Support, and requesting an activation key file.

After you receive the activation key file, save the file to an accessible folder on your machine. You will need to access this file during the upgrade process.

To stop the Real User Analyzer and Collector components

Use the following Linux commands to stop the component services before proceeding with the upgrade.

  1. Log in to the virtual machine with the Real User Analyzer or Collector installation with root user account privileges
  2. Run the required command in a command prompt:
    • service euem_analyzer stop
    • service euem_collector stop

You can confirm that the Real User Analyzer or Collector components' services have been stopped by checking to see if they are opening in a supported browser.

To back up the components

You can download the Real User Analyzer and Collector component configuration, user information, device configuration, and security configuration so this data can be reused in an upgraded component instance.

The following describes how to download all of this component information before you proceed with the upgrade process:

Downloading these settings only applies to the Real User Analyzer.

    4. Follow the instructions displayed in your browser to save the file.
The file is saved. To open the file, unzip it. You can edit the XML file that defines configuration settings for this instance.
