Following the integration of the TrueSight Operations Management ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) tasks with TrueSight Operations Management, you can view events from TrueSight Capacity Optimization on the Events tab in the TrueSight console.

Depending on the ETL frequency, the events are generated based on the past day's data or current day's data.

Integrating with TrueSight Operations Management

Before you begin

  • In the TrueSight Presentation Server, you must have registered the TrueSight Capacity Optimization component, as described in Registering the component products with the Presentation Server.
  • Entities must be monitored. Device monitoring must be enabled for all entities so that Capacity Optimization gets data for all the entities.
  • In TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the TrueSight Operations Management ETLs must be configured and running.

To integrate events from TrueSight Capacity Optimization into TrueSight Operations Management

  1. Log on to the TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console as a user with the administrator role.
  2. Select the Administration tab.
  3. In the Navigation area, expand System.
  4. Click Global configuration.
  5. In the BMC Environment tab, click Edit.
  6. In the BMC TrueSight Operations Management area, select or type the following:
    • Instance: Select An instance of BMC TrueSight Operations Management is available in this environment.
    • Event server URL: Type the URL as per the following table:

      Extractor (ETL module) name

      URL
BMC - TrueSight Operations Management 10.1/10.5/10.7 extractor

URL for the Presentation Server instance that is configured for TrueSight Operations Management.

BMC - TrueSight Operations Management 10.1/10.5/10.7 Generic extractor

BMC - TrueSight Operations Management 9.0/9.5/9.6/10.0 extractor

      TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server URL.
BMC - TrueSight Operations Management 9.0/9.5/9.6/10.0 Generic View Extractor
    • Username: Type the user name for the server authentication.

    • Password: Type the password for the server authentication.

      Note

The TrueSight Infrastructure Management user must be assigned an administrator role.

  7. Click Save.

To configure an alert rule to send events to TrueSight Operations Management

  1. Ensure that TrueSight Capacity Optimization is configured to send events to TrueSight Operations Management. For more information, see Configuring the BMC environment related options.
  2. To define a new alert rule (see Adding a rule) or to modify an existing alert rule, on the General tab, for Rule configuration, select based on Template.
  3. In the Template group, select from one of the following alert rule template groups:
    • AIX Virtualization
The AIX Virtualization template group enables you to select AIX Virtualization- LPAR File System Used or LPAR Saturation. Selecting one of these templates automatically updates the alert rule with the predefined filters, conditions, and actions associated with the templates available for that group.
    • Solaris Virtualization
The Solaris Virtualization template group enables you to select Solaris Virtualization- LDOM File System Used or LDOM Saturation. Selecting one of these templates automatically updates the alert rule with the predefined filters, conditions, and actions associated with the template available for that group.
    • VMware Virtualization
The VMware Virtualization template group enables you to select VMware Virtualization, Virtual Guest SaturationCluster SaturationHost Saturation or VM File System Saturation. Selecting one of these templates automatically updates the alert rule with the predefined filters, conditions, and actions associated with the template available for that group.

      Notes

      • All the LPAR Saturation, LDOM Saturation, VMware Virtualization, Virtual Guest Saturation, Cluster Saturation, and Host Saturation templates will use CPU and memory utilization.
      • The events for AIX and Solaris use utilization and configuration information from BMC TrueSight Operations Management, where as events for VMWare use information from VCenter.
  4. Select the Actions tab.
  5. For Publish events to BMC TrueSight Operations Management, select yes.
  6. Click Save.

Additional information

Here is a list of events from TrueSight Capacity Optimization to TrueSight Operations Management:

AIX LPAR

CPU and MEM forecasted saturation

Solaris LDOMs

CPU and MEM forecasted saturation

VMware

Cluster CPU and MEM forecasted saturation

VMware

Host CPU and MEM forecasted saturation

VMware

VM CPU, MEM and Filesystem saturation

Events for a cluster entity are sent to TrueSight Operations Management, but they do not get associated with a cluster entity at TrueSight Operations Management.

  1. Dear Document writer ,

In the above page it is written in before we begin

    • Entities must be monitored. Device monitoring must be enabled for all entities so that Capacity Optimization gets data for all the entities.

We are talking about getting events from Capacity optimization then why there is need to get the device monitored

Is the above statement relevant to this page
