Use this topic to understand the process for upgrading the Infrastructure Management server in application high-availability mode.

Before you begin

Review the prerequisites for applying feature packs and fix packs at Preparing to apply feature packs or fix packs on Infrastructure Management.

To upgrade Infrastructure Management in application high availability mode

  1. Stop the secondary Infrastructure Management server. For more information, see Starting and stopping the TrueSight Operations Management components.

    Note

    After stopping the secondary server, ensure that all internal processes are stopped.

  2. Upgrade the primary Infrastructure Management server.
  3. Stop the primary Infrastructure Management server.

    After stopping the primary server, ensure that all internal processes are stopped.

  4. Upgrade the secondary Infrastructure Management server.
  5. Stop the secondary Infrastructure Management server.
  6. Start the primary Infrastructure Management server.
  7. Start the secondary Infrastructure Management server.

To upgrade Infrastructure Management in application high availability and disaster recovery mode

If you have configured Infrastructure Management for application high availability and disaster recovery, perform the following steps to apply the feature pack or fix pack:

If you are using Oracle Data Guard

  1. At the primary site, upgrade the Infrastructure Management servers. See To upgrade Infrastructure Management in application high availability mode.
  2. Stop both servers by using the pw sys stop command.
  3. Create a backup of the installedDirectory/pw folder on both servers.
  4. Copy the backup of the installedDirectory/pw folder from the primary site to the corresponding recovery site servers.
  5. If you have configured a different alias for the primary and recovery hosts, manually update the recovery host name in the following files:
    installationDirectory/pw/server/etc/mcell.dir
    installationDirectory/pw/pronto/data/admin/admin.dir
    installationDirectory/pw/pronto/conf/cell_info.list

If you are not using Oracle Data Guard

  1. At the primary site, upgrade the Infrastructure Management servers. See To upgrade Infrastructure Management in application high availability mode.
  2. Stop both servers by using the pw sys stop command.
  3. Create a backup of the installedDirectory/pw folder on both servers.
  4. At the recovery site, upgrade the Infrastructure Management servers. See To upgrade Infrastructure Management in application high availability mode.
  5. Stop both servers by using the pw sys stop command.
  6. Copy the backup of the installedDirectory/pw folder from the primary site to the corresponding recovery site servers.
  7. If you have configured a different alias for the primary and recovery hosts, manually update the recovery host name in the following files:
    installationDirectory/pw/server/etc/mcell.dir
    installationDirectory/pw/pronto/data/admin/admin.dir
    installationDirectory/pw/pronto/conf/cell_info.list
  8. Start both recovery site servers.

  1. Please note that after upgrading the secondary infrastructure management server (Step 4 under To upgrade Infrastructure Management in application high availability mode) the installer will automatically start the application. The secondary must be stopped when the install is ran, unlike the primary which must be running when you do the install.
