Editing Windows proxies
You can view and update details about the list of available Windows Proxy pools and the corresponding proxies in each pool. Each proxy pool displays the Windows proxies in rows. For discovery tasks, the Windows proxy pool checks for a Windows proxy. For any proxy that was not previously used to discover endpoints, BMC Discovery attempts to communicate each proxy pool (matching the domain) in the order in which it appears in the UI table.
If BMC Discovery is able to successfully communicate with a given proxy, that proxy is used. If a communication timed out, other proxies in the pool are attempted. If a communication with a given proxy is unsuccessful due to an error, BMC Discovery attempts communication with the remaining pools in the order in which they appear.
Note
Reordering of Windows proxies in a Windows proxy pool is not supported, as the proxy used is selected automatically.
To edit Windows Proxy pools
- From the main menu, select Manage > Credentials.
The Device Credentials page is displayed by default. - Click the Windows Proxies tab.
The Windows Proxies page is displayed.
- From the table, click the Actions list in the corresponding pool and perform one of the following steps as required:
- To edit a proxy pool, select Manage.
The Edit Windows Proxy Pool page is displayed. For more information about editing the fields, see additional details for Windows Proxy Pools.- Update the proxy pool details as required, and click Apply.
- To delete a proxy pool, click Delete.
- To change the order of the Windows Proxy Pools, select Move to top or Move to bottom option, as required.
- To edit a proxy pool, select Manage.
To edit Windows proxies
- From the navigation bar, select Manage > Credentials.
The Device Credentials page is displayed by default. - Click the Windows Proxies tab.
The Windows Proxies page is displayed. - From the result list displayed in the table, click Actions and perform the following steps:
- Select Manage for the corresponding Windows Proxy.
The Manage Windows Proxy page is displayed for the selected proxy type.
- Update the fields as required, and click Apply in corresponding section of the Manage Windows Active Directory Proxy page

- Select Manage for the corresponding Windows Proxy.
Additional details for editing Windows proxy
The following table lists the fields and their descriptions that are required for editing Windows proxies.

| General Details—Enables you to update general information regarding a proxy, such as pool, address, port, and so on. | |
Proxy Pool | The Windows proxy pool for the Windows proxy. |
Proxy Address | The Windows proxy IP address. |
Port | The port number associated with the Windows proxy. |
| Certificate | The contents of the certificate that was generated automatically by the Windows Proxy Manager. To have the appliance automatically retrieve the certificate, leave this field as Not Set. |
Enabled | Displays whether the Windows proxy is enabled. |
Apply General Details | If you have modified any of the general details and want to apply them, click Apply General Details. |
Reset General Details | To reset the current general details, click Reset General Details. |
| Proxy Settings—Enables you to manage the logging and discovery methods used for the proxy. | |
| Log Level | You can change the log level of the Windows proxy at runtime here in the same way as you can for the service log levels from the main Logging page in BMC Discovery. For more details, see Changing log levels at runtime. The Log Level list has the following levels: • Debug—Fine-grained informational events that are most useful to debug an application. • Info—Informational messages that highlight the progress of the application at coarse-grained level. • Warning—Potentially harmful situations. • Error—Error events that might still allow the application to continue running. • Critical—Severe error events that might cause the application to abort. |
| Recording Mode | Displays the recording mode of the Windows proxy. The recording mode can be one of the following: • Record • Playback • None |
| Discovery Methods | Select the discovery methods and their timeouts for the Windows proxy. The available methods are: • WMI • RemQuery Note If you disable RemQuery, some discovery information is not available, including network connection details and the contents of files. |
| Overload Notification | If you select this option, the Windows proxy informs the main Discovery service when it is overloaded (that is, the Windows proxy has a large number of requests in progress). In such a situation, BMC Discovery, if possible, will try another Windows proxy from the same Windows proxy pool. However, if you do not select this option, BMC Discovery will wait for all the requests in progress to finish, which can take a long time if the Windows proxy is overloaded. |
| Log Directory Disk Usage | Displays the disk usage of the log directory on the Proxy Server. |
| Record Directory Disk Usage | Displays the disk usage of the record directory on the Proxy Server. |
| Purge | Enables you to automatically purge stored data for a specific time period for log files and record data. A selection list enables you to select the purge date. After you have selected the time period to purge data from the Windows proxy, select the Log Files check box or Record Data check box, or both, and click Apply. The selected data is now set to be automatically deleted on the specified duration. To immediately purge data, select the data (the Log Files check box or the Record Data check box, or both) to delete, and then click Purge Files Now. |
| Apply Proxy Settings | If you have modified any of the proxy settings details and want to apply them, click Apply Proxy Settings. |
| Reset Proxy Settings | To reset the current proxy setting details, click Reset Proxy Settings. |
| Proxy Information—Enables you to view the configuration details of the proxy server | |
| Operating System | The name and version of the Windows Operating System. |
| Processor(s) | Displays the number of processors and the processor type. |
| Memory | Displays the memory of the appliance and the percentage of memory used. |
| Disk Free | Available disk space, in MB. |
| Notes | Based on the proxy version, the OS version on which the proxy runs, and IPv6 capability, one of the following is displayed:
