    The CMDB Sync page displays all configured CMDB sync connections, and provides the following controls:

    • Global actions – to perform tasks on the CMDB process as an entity, effective over all connections.

    Each connection pane is color-coded to show its state, and an informational message on the state is included in the colored section.The color codes and their meaning are:

    • Green – CMDB connection OK.
    • Yellow – the server has errors.
    • Blue – the connection has been manually paused or a blackout window is in operation.
    • Red – the server is unreachable, credentials are incorrect, or an unexpected connection error exists.
    • Grey – connection disabled.

    During synchronization, the operation can fail with the following type of message:

    ERROR (8760): Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System Plug-In server; [cmdb hostname] (9555) BMC.FILTERAPI.NORM.ENGINE : RPC: Miscellaneous tli error - System error (Connection refused)

    This can be caused by Java being upgraded on the CMDB target, without a corresponding update to the following file to point to the new java/bin directory:

    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\Conf\armonitor.cfg

    Each connection pane also provides information on the connection:

    • Name – also a link to the connection page.
    • Continuous sync status – on or off.
    • Network Address – the address of the BMC Atrium CMDB server.
    • Dataset – the CMDB dataset that the connection is syncing into.
    • Device nodes – counts of nodes inserted, updated, and deleted. May be reset using the reset counters action menu item.
    • Data model – the data model in use for the connection.
    • Currently processing – whether any nodes are currently being synced.
    • Devices in queue – the number of devices that are currently being queued.

    Performing tasks on all CMDB sync connections

    The following tasks are performed on all CMDB sync connections:

    Enabling and disabling continuous sync

    Synchronization can be configured to run in a continuous mode, meaning that as soon as BMC Helix Discovery completes its scan of a device, the data corresponding to it is queued for synchronization with the CMDB. Alternatively, synchronization can be launched manually for one or more devices from within the browsing interface.

    Global Actions menu => Continuous Sync On

    Pausing and resuming sync

    Synchronization can be paused, meaning that newly discovered or updated nodes, and deletions, are still added to the sync queues, but are not processed until synchronization is resumed.

    Global Actions menu => Pause Sync

    Global Actions menu => Resume Sync

    Enabling and disabling sync

    Disabling sync means that newly discovered or updated nodes, and deletions, will no longer be added to the sync queues, though this does not prevent the CMDB target from being contacted.

    Global Actions menu => Disable Sync

    Performing tasks on individual CMDB sync connections

    The following tasks are available from the Actions drop down for each CMDB sync connection:

    Actions drop down => Edit
    Edit the connection details. Opens the Manage CMDB Connection page with the Details tab showing. This can also be accessed by clicking the connection name link.

    Actions drop down => Delete
    Delete the connection. You are prompted for confirmation

    Actions drop down => Continuous Sync On/Continuous Sync Off
    Turn continuous sync on or off.

    Actions drop down => Pause Sync/Resume Sync
    Pause or resume sync.

    Actions drop down => Enable Sync/Disable Sync
    Enable or disable sync.

    Actions drop down => Reset Counters
    Reset the counts of nodes inserted, uploaded, and deleted for this connection.
