BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2019-Jan-3 is a deliverable for BMC Discovery 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3 series.

    TKU 2019-Jan-3

In previous TKU Jan 2019 releases, scans of some storage devices fail with "No Access”, due to files being missing from the TKU. We have now re-issued the TKU January release to solve that problem.

If you have already installed the original version of the Technology Knowledge Update for January 2019 or TKU 2019-Jan-2, it is strongly recommended that you upgrade your TKU to this re-release.

Please note that when you upgrade from original version of the Technology Knowledge Update for January 2019 or from TKU 2019-Jan-2 to this re-release:

    • procedure will take less time than fresh monthly upgrade.
    • you won't get usual warning that the product content will cause a restart.
    • but you will need to restart Discovery service because of Network Device update.
    • Product Content name won't change.

Product content updates require appliance restart

This TKU release contains product content additions. When product content is added, the appliance is restarted as part of the update. You are given the opportunity to prevent the restart, though if you do so, none of the knowledge content will be installed.

    Discovery Conditions updates

This TKU release contains new Discovery Condition for the case when ESXi 6.5 Blade host running inside an Enclosure and reports the serial number of this Enclosure. (DRDC1-12251) More information about this topic can be found here.

    CMDB Sync mapping updates

For January TKU Release the following issues have been fixed:

    • Load Balancer CMDB sync error. (DRDC1-12445)
    • F5 physical and virtual relation not sync to CMDB. (DRDC1-12428)
    • Stack members that are Fabric Extenders are synchronized as type "switch" in the CMDB. (DRDC1-12263)
    • When you put a Deployment node into a BAI, it is not handled correctly. (DRUD1-24520)

For more information about the CDM mapping please visit the product documentation: Default CDM Mapping.

    Load Balancer updates

Starting from 2019 January TKU release Avi Networks Load Balancer is fully supported. For more information about the Discovery of Load Balancers please visit the product documentation: Load Balancers.

Enhanced Pattern Modules for Cluster Awareness in BMC Discovery 11.x series

BMC Discovery 11.0.x introduces a new extended cluster discovery.

Cluster Modeling approaches and Key changes:

    1. Clustering Platform that generate a Cluster Node. In most cases the Key does not change.
    2. Clustered Software. In previous releases, the SIs were modeled running on Host nodes. Now, if they are running on a cluster, they are modeled running on the Cluster node. That means that instances of these products that run on clusters have changed Keys. Instances that do not run on clusters do not have changed Keys.
    3. Software Performing Clustering - products that implement their own Clustering Scheme without using a Clustering Platform. In general, the SoftwareCluster is given the same Key that was previously given to the SoftwareInstance.

More about new clustering technologies and clustering models you may find here.
