The release comprises of four components packaged as two licensable entities:

  • BMC Atrium Discovery Technology Knowledge Update
    • Core - Patterns that model various software products
    • Database detail - Patterns that extend some of the core database patterns to obtain additional detailed information about certain databases
  • BMC Atrium Discovery Extended Data Pack
    • Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate Atrium Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of certain host Operating Systems as well as versions of certain software products
    • Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populate Atrium Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.

Enhanced Software Instance Patterns

Vendor Product Enhancement SI Key Change Pattern Module
CA ARCserve Backup The ARCserver Backup Server pattern has been enhanced to add an additional trigger process, as well as adding registry versioning for the product N

IBM Director The IBM Director Server pattern has been enhanced to allow identification of new versions of this product (trigger process has changed) as well as having file versioning method added. N

MySQL AB (Oracle) MySQL Database Server The MySQL Database Server pattern now also attempts to obtain the IP address the database is listening on N

Symantec Endpoint Protection Symantec Anti Virus pattern has been enhanced to allow both identification of Symantec Anti Virus and Symantec Endpoint Protection which is the new name of the product. The SI type will vary depending on the version obtained (11.0 and above is Symantec Endpoint Protection). Additionally, WMI query versioning and Registry versioning methods have been added as well as additional package name for the package versioning method. Y

Symantec Workflow A BAI pattern has been added to the pattern module in this release. The BAI pattern collects all the components of the Symantec Workflow product into a Business Application Instance. N

Symantec Inventory Solution A BAI pattern has been added to the pattern module in this release. The BAI pattern collects all the components of the Symantec Inventory Solution into a Business Application Instance. N

Bugs Fixed

The following bugs have been fixed in BMC Atrium Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2010-May-1

Case No Defect No Details Pattern Module
N/A 13021 Problem: Oracle RDBMS pattern sets the 'global_name' SI attribute either from parsing the listener.ora file for 'GLOBAL_DBNAME' or alternatively from 'SERVICE_NAME' parameter parsed from a tnslistener.ora file. The code incorrectly assumes that the 'SERVICE_NAME' is equivalent to 'GLOBAL_DBNAME' Solution: The pattern no longer sets the 'global_name' SI attribute based on 'SERVICE_NAME' from tnslistener.ora file. The pattern however will set the new 'service_name' SI attribute if it can obtain 'SERVICE_NAME' from the tnslistener.ora file. If 'SERVICE_NAME' value has not been obtained but 'GLOBAL_DBNAME' value was parsed, then 'service_name' attribute is set to the same value as the 'global_name' SI attribute.

ISS03565916 13042 Problem: In a scenario where a Solaris Zone moves from one physical machine to another, a situation can occur where the virtual host can have a relationship to more than one Solaris zone SI. This causes issues with the export of data to CMDB Solution: Solaris zone consolidation pattern update to ensure that the virtual host has a relationship only to a single Solaris zone SI

ISS03584664 QM001653333 / 13050 Problem: Solaris Zone pattern can fail with an ECA Engine error if it encounters unexpected output from zoneadm command Solution: Parsing code within the Solaris Zone pattern improved.

ISS03595229 / ISS03590837 QM001657590 / 13113 Problem: Oracle RDBMS pattern can fail to correctly parse the TNS listener name from listener.ora file due to the regular expression used matching too much. Solution: Pattern updated with improved regular expression.

N/A 13120 Problem: Oracle RDBMS can fail with an ECA Engine error in certain cases when trying to obtain ORACLE HOME location from the TNS Listener SI due to incorrect regular expression. Solution: Pattern updated with correct regular expression

ISS03601587 QM001657506 / 13151 Problem: In certain cases, IBM FileNet High Performance Image Import and IBM FileNet Mid Range Image Import patterns could fail with an ECA Engine error due to an incorrect assumption that the ID of the parent process for the trigger process would always be obtained. This does not always have to happen on the Windows platform Solution: Fixes implemented in the patterns to gracefully handle this scenario.

N/A 13187 - 13190 Problem: A number of pattern modules have a code block that is using the ADDM search service in an inefficient way which could cause a noticeable performance impact in some cases. Solution: Patterns updated with a more efficient search block.

N/A 13197 Problem: Regular expression used in parsing of a configuration file contents in BMC BladeLogic Server Automation RSCD Agent pattern is incorrect Solution: Regular expression updated in the pattern

ISS03589669 QM001659668 / 13200 Problem: Solaris Zone consolidation patterns fail to link virtual hosts with multiple IP addresses with the Zone containers they are running within. Solution: Solaris Zone consolidation patterns updated to handle this scenario

N/A 13204 Problem: Oracle Database Server pattern can fail with an ECA Engine error if the Oracle SID contains what are regarded as 'special' characters within Atrium Discovery search service (and these characters are not escaped). Solution: Oracle Database Server and TNS Listener patterns updated to ensure that these special characters are always escaped.

N/A 13217 / 13218 Problem: BMC Event Manager pattern can fail with an ECA Engine error due to inability to handle some variations of the format of a configuration file it is reading. Solution: Pattern updated with more flexible parsing of the file and better error handling in the code to handle the scenarios where the data was not retrieved.

N/A 13222 Problem: Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Server and BMC CONTROL-M Enterprise Manager patterns can fail with an ECA Engine error on Atrium Discovery 8.1.01 (8.1.1) due to an issue that exists in Atrium Discovery 8.1.01 with the use of the 'show' clause within a search block in patterns. Solution: Patterns updated by modifying the search block through removal of the 'show' clause.
