Enhanced Software Instance Patterns

Vendor Product Enhancement SI Key Change Pattern Module
Citrix XenServer The pattern has been enhanced to improve the versioning of the product, as well as adding a user configurable option to execute the commands which retrieve the version and VM information with escalated privileges (if such mechanism is set up in the platform scripts). N

IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager Response Time Tracking The Management Agent pattern was significantly enhanced through adding another trigger, and adding file versioning (UNIX and Windows)and package versioning (UNIX) methods. N

IBM Tivoli Remote Control The IBM Tivoli Remote Control Server pattern has been enhanced by adding an alternate trigger, addition of registry versioning method and an addition of another package versioning regular expression. The IBM Tivoli Remote Control Client pattern has been enhanced by adding an alternate trigger, and addition of WMI versioning (Windows) method. N

IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender IBM WebSphere Transformation Extender patterns have been enhanced by addition of Edition support (Launcher, Command Server), and additional versioning methods (Depending on the pattern) N

IBM WebSphere IBM WebSphere Service Registry and Repository pattern was enhanced to add relationship creation between the SI created and the IBM WebSphere Application Server SI it depends on (on the same host) N

Microsoft Exchange Server The Microsoft Exchange Server pattern has been enhanced to provide improved support for Exchange 2007/2010 through recognition of instances that do not have Mailbox Server role installed. Versioning of the product has also been improved by adding support for Exchange 2010. N

Bugs Fixed

The following bugs have been fixed in BMC Atrium Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2010-Jul-1

Case No Defect No Details Pattern Module
ISS03610357 QM001661003 / 13237 Problem: Citrix Xen Server pattern incorrectly stops on Citrix Xen Server v5.5 and later installations as it incorrectly assumes that this is not an installation of Citrix Xen. The test used by the pattern to decipher between Citrix Xen and XenSource Xen is no longer valid with the changes in later versions of Citrix Xen. Solution: Pattern updated to use different mechanisms to confirm that Citrix Xen is installed.

N/A 13319 An additional edition (embedded Express) of IBM WebSphere Application Server has been found on customer site and has been added to the pattern in order to enable its identification and versioning

N/A 13322 An additional registry location to enable versioning of Microsoft SQL Server has been identified on customer site. The pattern has been updated to add this location to the list of possible locations queried when versioning MS SQL.

N/A 13323 Problem: Registry key constant within the Quest Recovery Manager for Sharepoint pattern was incorrectly initialized which could lead to registry versioning for the product failing. Solution: Pattern updated with the correct registry key constant value

N/A 13325 Problem: The 'name' attribute within the License Detail node created by the Symantec VERITAS NetBackup pattern has extra formatting characters Solution: Pattern updated to parse out the formatting characters

N/A 13326 Problem: The 'expiration_date' attribute within the License Detail node created by the Symantec VERITAS NetBackup pattern has information in a format not consistent with the way this data is stored by other patterns. Solution: Pattern updated with code to format the date consistently

N/A 13333 SAP Suite pattern has been updated to no longer create a 'build' attribute as part of the Software Instance since this attribute is no longer valid after the versioning approach update in TKU June 2010

ISS03608774 QM00166235 / 13336 Problem: The SI key of Data Collector pattern in IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for WebSphere can at times exceed 255 characters in length which will cause export of that node to Atrium CMDB to fail Solution: Pattern has been updated - the SI key now has an MD5 hash applied to the longest component of it to ensure that the total length is below 255 characters

N/A 13342 Problem: The list of DB2 database names stored in 'databases' attribute of the IBM DB2 Software Instance can contain duplicates Solution: Pattern updated to filter out duplicate database names when populating the attribute

N/A 13347 Problem: When attempting to download a configuration file, the TunerService pattern within BMC BladeLogic Client Automation pattern module can attempt to download a file with no name as it does not check that the full file path has been constructed correctly Solution: Pattern updated to ensure that file download is attempted only if the full file path including the filename has been constructed

N/A 13359 HP Data Protector CellManager pattern updated to ensure that no superfluous spaces are included within attributes of the License Detail node created by the pattern

ISS03620493 QM001664260 / 13373 Problem: BEA WebLogic Application Server (Windows) pattern can exit with an ECA Engine error if the configuration xml (config.xml) file was not obtained. Solution: Pattern updated with code to handle the scenario where the configuration file was not obtained

ISS03627654 QM001665001 / 13382 Problem: Pattern that creates links between Oracle VM Software Instance and a Virtual Host running within this VM can be triggered on hosts which are have Xen enabled kernels running outside a Xen environment. As the pattern assumes it was triggered in an Oracle VM (Xen based) environment, it does not test that it is actually running in this environment and attempts to obtain '/sys/hypervisor/uuid' file which can cause the scanned host to 'hang' due to a bug in Red Hat ES Linux kernel Solution: Pattern updated to confirm that it is in fact running in an Oracle VM environment

N/A 13385 IBM DB2 pattern updated to create License Detail nodes whose 'name' attribute is no longer 'IBM DB2 License' but actually mentions what DB2 product the license is for

ISS03627254 QM001665071 / 13387 Problem: GemStone Object Server pattern can fail to correctly extract the server name from the trigger process arguments Solution: Parsing code to obtain the server name improved in the pattern.

ISS03623272 / ISS03631042 QM001665622 Problem: Incorrect search parameter in IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Client pattern can cause performance issues with the Atrium Discovery appliance as effectively an unbound search query is created which can take a very long time to return Solution: Pattern updated with correct search parameter inserted into the query code

ISS03631489 QM001666489 / 13389 Problem: Sun Solaris LDOM pattern can trigger on Linux hosts as the trigger process is similar to a process of another product running on the Linux platform Solution: Pattern updated with code that tests the platform it has triggered on, ensuring that the pattern stops if it has triggered on a non-Solaris host

ISS03624194 QM001663892 / 13390 Problem: Oracle Database Server, Oracle Database Server Express (Unix) and Oracle ASM patterns can set the path for oracle home (ora_home) incorrectly if the oratab file they are parsing is incorrectly formatted Solution: Patterns updated with code that improves the parsing of oratab file.

N/A 13407 XenSource Xen Server, Citrix Xen Server and Oracle VM patterns updated to remove creation of communication relationship between the server SI and SIs representing virtual machines. Dependency relationship is also created and this is all that is required.

N/A 13409 Problem: Active versioning method in BMC Impact Manager pattern fails on the Windows platform if the installation path contains spaces as when this path is used to construct the full active version command, it is not correctly escaped. Solution: Pattern updated with code to ensure that the path has been escaped before being passed to the discovery component of ADDM
