Enhanced Software Instance Patterns

Vendor Product Enhancement SI Key Change Pattern Module
BEA WebLogic Application Server In this release we optimized the code that determines the location of config.xml file which is required for obtaining domain information and listening ports (information required for deep discovery) N

BMC BladeLogic Server Automation Suite An additional pattern that creates a second order Software Instance representing the actual BladeLogic Server Automation Suite has been added to the module. The main components of the suite now have a containment relationship with the new second-order SI that is created N

BMC PATROL Dashboard An additional pattern that identifies BMC PATROL Dashboard Corporate Edition has been added to the pattern module. N

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager An additional pattern that identifies IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client has been added to the pattern module. In addition to this, the SI key group for the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server pattern has been changed to use the installation root path. This attribute is also added to the SI to enable creation of communication link between the Server and the Client components Y

Microsoft IIS Microsoft IIS 7 and IIS 7 Web Server patterns now set their product version as major.minor since this is the new format adopted by Microsoft as of IIS 7.x N

Oracle Oracle RDBMS Additional processes are now linked as associates to the Oracle RDBMS pattern SI. Processes in question are Oracle shadow process, ora_mmon, ora_diag, ora_mman N

Bugs Fixed

The following bugs have been fixed in BMC Atrium Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2010-Apr-1

Case No Defect No Details Pattern Module
23057 12695 Problem: Java pattern will attempt to obtain version information using active method even for javaw.exe processes on Microsoft Windows. Discovery has been reported to time out when the 'javaw.exe -v' command is executed with certain versions of Java VM. Solution: Active versioning of javaw.exe processes is no longer attempted

ISS03569846 12997 Problem: The initial implementation of storage of license information on Detail Nodes (TKU Oct 2009) did not create the Detail Node key which was unique enough potentially leading to information about multiple licenses linked to a product being lost. Solution: The way the Detail Node key is generated has been improved in the update to the patterns. The patterns for the following products were affected and updated: Symantec VERITAS Cluster Server Symantec VERITAS File System Symantec VERITAS Storage Foundation Symantec VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows Symantec VERITAS Volume Manager Symantec VERITAS Volume Replicator

N/A 13037 Patterns identifying Business Objects products have had their SI type update to indicate the fact that the product publisher is now SAP The SI key has changed for all patterns within the pattern modules for the products listed below. The patterns for the following products were updated: Business Objects BusinessObjects -> SAP BusinessObjects Business Objects BusinessObjects Broadcast Agent -> SAP BusinessObjects Broadcast Agent Business Objects BusinessObjects Enterprise -> SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Business Objects BusinessObjects InfoView -> SAP BusinessObjects InfoView Business Objects BusinessObjects OLAP Intelligence -> SAP BusinessObjects OLAP Intelligence Business Objects BusinessObjects Web Intelligence -> SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Business Objects BusinessObjects Crystal Reports -> SAP BusinessObjects Crystal Reports Business Objects Crystal Suite Components -> SAP Crystal Suite Components Business Objects BusinessObjects Xcelsius -> SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius

ISS03572506 13038 Problem: MySQL RDBMS Software Instance 'name' attribute for instances discovered on Microsoft Windows could at times contain excessive text due to an issue with the regular expression used to extract the information to populate the 'name' attribute. Solution: Regular expression was improved to prevent the issue from recurring. In addition to this, the longest part of the SI key string has been hashed to prevent the key lenght being longer than 200 characters. This has resulted in the SI key being changed.

ISS03581976 13039 Problem: Parsing of the command-line arguments in the VMware VM pattern could fail to correctly extract the path for the .vmx files (used to obtain configuration information about the hosted VMs). This issue was initially observed with VMware ESX 4.x hosted VMs Solution: Regular expression used to parse the location of the .vmx file has been improved.

N/A 13046 License Detail Node created by the HP Data Protector Cell Manager pattern has now its type standardized to 'Licensing Detail' to align it with other patterns that create Detail Nodes containing license information

N/A 13047 Detail Node created by the Microsoft Office Communicator pattern has now its type standardized to 'Installed Component' to align it with other patterns that create Detail Nodes that contain information about installed components

ISS03587049 13066 Problem: Due to the change in the output of the versioning command, as well as the name change of the installed package, VMware ESX pattern fails to obtain the version of VMware ESX 4.x Solution: Parsing of VMware ESX version command output has been enhanced to handle the change in the format. Additionally, parsing of the installed package names has also been enhanced.

N/A 13083 Problem: Microsoft IIS Web Server (v5, v6) pattern could create Detail Nodes for Web Applications which did not contain the name of the application if it could not be extracted from 'AppFriendlyName' attribute within the correspondind 'IisWebVirtualDir' node in metabase.xml file Solution: Pattern code improved to use a backup method of obtaining the application name from the Virtual Directory path name

N/A 13102 Problem: Xpath call to obtain the information about Application Pools in Microsoft IIS Web Server (v5, v6) pattern had incorrect syntax in the entered path leading to tracebacks being seen in Discovery Windows slave log Solution: Path entered in the Xpath call was corrected.

N/A 13106 Problem: Soph.os AV (Unix) pattern method to obtain build information from configuration was incorrectly implemented resulting in failure to obtain this information. Solution: Pattern code fixed to resolve this issue
