NetApp Storage (SNMP) Discovered Information

This page details the storage information collected for each of the supported NetApp Storage Systems discovered via SNMP in your IT infrastructure.

 

 Note that the pattern based on SNMP is still available but has limitations. We strongly recommend that you use the NetApp Storage System (REST API) pattern. Refer to the following documentation pages for details:

Storage Systems Information

To access the collected information for NetApp Storage systems:

  1. From the Home page, locate the Quick View section and click the Storage System icon to display the list of the discovered storage systems.

  2. In the Storage System list, double-click the NetApp storage system you wish to access.

The table below lists the System Storage Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Storage System InformationDescription
NameThe name of the storage system.
TypeThe type name of the storage system.
Client Access TypesThe ways in which a client host can access the storage that this system is providing (NAS).
VendorThe storage system vendor.
ModelThe model name.
Software VersionThe version number of the software.
Serial NumberThe storage system serial number.
Total Disk SpaceThe total available space in the storage system in bytes.
Hardware in Use (Hardware Container)List of Hardware Containers for the storage system.
Total Oversubscribed CapacityTotal space oversubscribed in the storage system.
Storage DeviceLink to the storage device page.
Storage ProcessorsLink to the storage processors page.
Cluster / GroupThe name of the cluster/group related to the storage system.
File SystemsDisplays the number of related file systems (NetApp Volumes / Qtrees). This is also a link to the File Systems List page. To see the file systems page, click the corresponding table row.
IPv4 AddressesList of IPv4 addresses used by the storage system.
Network InterfacesList of the network interfaces related to the storage system.
System IdThe identifier of the storage system.

Hardware Container Information

A Hardware Container in BMC Discovery is a node that regroups all the available information about the discovered hardware components for a storage system. 

To access the collected information for hardware containers click the Hardware Container link available from the Storage System page.

The table below lists the Hardware Container Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Hardware ContainerDescription
NameThe name of the hardware container.
Type

The type of the hardware container:

  • Main System Chassis are containers directly attached to the storage system that regroup Expansion Chassis containers and/or provide access to the discovered hardware components metrics.
  • Expansion Chassis containers are part of a Main System Chassis container and provide access to the discovered hardware components metrics.
ModelThe model name of the hardware container.
Serial NumberThe hardware container serial number.
Hardware VendorThe name of the hardware container manufacturer.
Storage SystemsFor Main System Chassis type only — Link to the storage system(s) related to the hardware container.
Disk DrivesThe list of the disk drives that are grouped in the hardware container.
PatternLink to the related pattern information.

Storage Device Information

A Storage device in BMC Discovery represents an NetApp storage chassis that has been discovered via an SNMP query. This section provides information about the Storage Device.

To access the collected information for storage devices, click the Storage Device link available in the Storage System page.

The table below lists the Storage Device Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Storage System GroupThe storage system groups for this storage device. This is also a link to the Storage System Groups page.
Storage SystemsList of the storage systems for this storage device. This is also a link to the Storage Systems page.

The discovery access history for the storage device.

Storage Processors Information

This section provides information about the storage processors managing data transfer for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for storage processors:

  1. Click the Infrastructure tab, and then the Storage Systems in the Infrastructure Summary section.
  2. Select a storage system from the list.
  3. Click a Processor Identifier name in the Storage Processors section.

The table below lists the Storage Processors Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Vendor

The hardware vendor.

Model

The model name.

Description

The model description.

SerialThe serial number of the processor.
FirmwareThe firmware version of the processor.
MemoryThe amount of memory available for the processor (Gib).
Storage SystemThe name of the storage device. This is also a link to the Storage System page.
UuidThe Universally Unique Identifier of the processor.
Front End FC PortsList of the front-end FC Ports for this processor.

Storage System Groups Information

This section provides information about the storage system group for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for the storage system group, click the Storage System Group Link in the Cluster / Group section available from the Storage System page.

The table below lists the Storage System Group Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Type

The type of the storage system group.

Storage Systems

The storage system(s) related to the storage system group. This is also a link to the Storage System page.
Storage DeviceThe storage device related to the storage system group. This is also a link to the Storage Device page
Storage PoolsThe storage pool(s) related to the storage system group. This is also a link to the Storage Pool page
IPv4 AddressesThe IPv4 addresses used by the storage system group.

Storage Volumes Information

This section provides information about the NetApp LUNS (modeled as storage volumes in BMC Discovery) for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for storage volumes:

  1. Click the Storage Volumes link available in the Storage System page.
  2. In the Storage Volumes list, double-click the storage volume you wish to access.

The table below lists the Storage Volumes Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Storage Volume Information

Description

Volume ID

The ID of the storage volume.

Name

The name of the storage volume.

NAA ID

The Network Address Authority ID.

Thinly Provisioned

Indicates whether the volume is thinly provisioned or not. For example, if the volume is not thinly provisioned, it displays No.

Visible Capacity

The visible capacity of the storage volume.

Consumable Capacity

The consumable capacity of the storage volume.

Block Size

The block size of the storage volume.

Number of Blocks

The number of blocks of the storage volume.

Consumable Blocks

The number of consumable blocks of the storage volume.

Mapped

Indicates whether or not the storage volume is mapped.

Serial

The serial number of the storage volume.

Initiator Group

The NetApp initiator group to which storage volume is associated to.

Virtual Disks

This is the list of Virtual Disk drivers consuming this volume, if any.

Storage System

The name of the storage system for this storage volume. This is also a link to the Storage Systems page.

Storage Consumers

Name of the storage connections related to the storage volume. This is also a link to the Storage Connection page.


Disk Drives Information

The total number of disk drives associated with a storage entity is displayed on the Storage System page.This section provides information about the disk drives for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for disk drives, click the disk drive you wish to access from the Hardware Container page,

Disk Drive Information

Description

Name

The name of the disk drive.

TypeThe type of disk drive.
SpeedThe speed of disk drive in RPMs.

Size

The size of the disk drive in bytes.

VendorThe name of the disk drive vendor.
RoleThe role of the disk drive. For example RAID or Spare.
Current StateThe current state of the disk drive.

Model

The model of the disk drive.

Serial NumberThe serial number of the disk drive.
PositionThe position of the disk in the enclosure

Hardware Container

Name of the hardware container for this disk drive. This is also a link to the Hardware Container page.

File Systems Information

This section provides information about the NetApp Volumes (modeled as File Systems in BMC Discovery) for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for file systems, click the File System link available in the Storage System page.

The table below lists the File Systems Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

File System Information

Description

Filesystem Name

The name of the file system.

Alternative Filesystem NamesThe file system aliases names.
KindThe file system kind.
TypeThe file system type.

Size

The file system size in bytes.

Used

The space used on the file system in bytes.

Used PercentageThe percentage of space used on the file system.

Free

The space available on the file system in bytes.

Free PercentageThe percentage of free space available on the file system.
Thinly ProvisionedIndicates whether the file system is thinly provisioned or not. For example, if the file system is not thinly provisioned, it displays False.

Storage System

Name of the storage system for this file system. This is also a link to the Storage Systems page.
Encryption
Indicates whether or not the encryption is activated for the file system.

Front End FC Ports Information

This section provides information about the front-end fiber channel ports transmitting data for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for Frond End Fibre Channel Ports:

  1. Click a Processor Identifier name in the Storage Processors section of the Storage System page.
  2. Click a Port Name in the Front End FC Ports section.

Description

Port Name

The name of the front end FC port.

WWPN

The world wide port name of the port.

Role

The role of the FC port.

Type

The front end FC port type.

State

The front end FC port state.

Speed (Gb/s)

The front end FC port speed (in Gbit/s).

FCP topologyThe topology of this port.

Storage Processor

The storage processor for this port. This is also a link to the Storage Processor page. Refer to the Storage Processors Information section for details.

Exposed VolumesList of storage volumes exposed via this port.
VserverName of the secure virtual storage server related to this port.
Home PortIdentifier of the home port.
Uuid Home NodeUniversally unique identifier (UUID) of the home node.

IP Addresses Information

This section provides information about the IP addresses used by the storage system.

To access the collected information for the IP addresses, click the IP Address Link of the Storage System page.

The table below lists the IP Address Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Type

The type of IP address (IPV4 or IPV6).
Broadcast AddressThe broadcast address within the subnet.
Network InterfaceThe network interface related to the IP address.
Storage SystemThe storage system related to the IP address.
SubnetThe sub-networks for the IP address.
Interface AliasesThe name of the interface aliases for the IP address.
Virtual ServerThe name of the virtual server related to the IP address.

Network Interface Information

This section provides information about the network interface.

To access the collected information for network interfaces, click the Network Interface link available in the Storage System page.

The table below lists the Network Interface Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Interface Name
The name of the network interface.

MAC Address

The unique identifier assigned to the network interface.

Speed (Mbps)

The speed of the network interface.
DuplexIndicates the duplex mode status (half or full).
NegotiationIndicates the link speed negotiation mode. By default, this option is set to AUTO for auto-negotiation.

Storage Device

The storage device related to the network interface.

ifindexThe network interface Index identifier.

Storage Connection Information

A Storage connection represents a connection between a storage client (a host using the storage) and a storage volume. The same connection may be linked to multiple volumes representing the client's visibility of multiple storage volumes. The volumes shown are only those that the client is permitted to access. This section provides information about the Storage Connection for the selected storage volume.

To access the collected information for storage connections:

  1. Click the Infrastructure tab, and then the Storage Systems in the Infrastructure Summary section.
  2. Select a storage system from the list.
  3. Click the Storage Volumes related link in the Storage Volumes section to display a list of the storage connections associated to the selected volume.
  4. Select a Storage Volume from the list.
  5. Click a Connection Name in the Storage Consumers section.

Description

Connection Name

The name of the connection.

Connection Type

The type of storage connection. 

Connection Value

A unique identifier for the storage consumer using this connection.

Storage Volumes

The name of any storage volumes visible to the host using this connection.

Consumer Fibre Chanel Port

Information on the Fiber channel port on the host using this connection.
