The following figure shows the architecture for the BMC Analytics for Business Service Management (BMC Analytics for BSM) product.

BMC Analytics for BSM architecture

(Click the image to expand it.)

The product architecture contains the following components:

  • Web browser/SAP BusinessObjects BI launch pad — BMC Analytics for BSM reports are accessible through the SAP BusinessObjects BI launch pad, which is accessible through a web browser. Some reports include links to BMC Remedy ITSM tickets (for example, incident or change tickets). The user can click on the links in the reports and the browser accesses the BMC Remedy Mid Tier to show the applicable form (for example, incident form or change form). If you choose to integrate with BMC Atrium Single Sign-On, the user can log in seamlessly to BMC Remedy Mid Tier and view the tickets without the need to provide their user name and password again.
  • The SAP BusinessObjects Central Management Server — The Central Management Server is part of the SAP Business Enterprise application and is deployed on the Apache Tomcat application web server. Predefined BMC Remedy ITSM reports and the ITSM universe are stored in the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Central Management Server or central management system (CMS) repository.
  • Universe — The universe contains the objects necessary for reporting on the BMC applications. The BMC Analytics for BSM administrator interacts with the universe through the SAP BusinessObjects Universe Design Tool.
  • BMC Remedy AR System database — BMC recommends that you use the BMC Remedy AR System database for installation and a replicated database for reporting, to avoid a performance impact on your production server. Reports are run on data stored in a replicated database and not directly in the production database. For more information about how to ensure that BMC Analytics for BSM works successfully with a replicated database, see BMC Analytics for Business Service Management with a replicated BMC Remedy AR System database.
