Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2022-Jan-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2022-Jan-1 is a deliverable for BMC Discovery 12.0, 20.08, 21.05, and 21.3 series.

Important Note for Discovery 20.02 (12.0) Customers Only:

Mapping files for synchronization to ServiceNow CMDB

The mapping files for synchronization to ServiceNow CMDB released with the previous version of BMC Discovery no longer work with the updated sync for ServiceNow CMDB. New mapping files are available from EPD. However, to ensure correct operation, you must use the following procedure:

  1. Delete the sync for ServiceNow mappings
  2. Upload the new sync for ServiceNow mappings
  3. Restart the cmdb_sync_transformer service. As the tideway user, enter: tw_service_control --restart cmdb_sync_transformer

Important Note for Discovery 22.1 (12.3) Customers Only:

TLS Certificate check

BMC Discovery and the BMC Discovery Outpost check the TLS certificate against GCP. If the certificate is not valid, you can clear the check box to disable the TLS certificate check. In such a case, please be aware that your credentials could be intercepted by a hacker attack.

New command LSHW in Linux platform script

TKU October release has introduced a new command 'lshw' in the Linux platform script. The command should be run with sudo otherwise, the command does not return full data.

The PRIV_LSHW is in the initialized platform script. If you have previously configured initialize script, you should reset it to the default state to view PRIV_LSHW and reconfigure it.

Release highlights

In this release we have added support for:

  • DATABASE: Redis extended database. For details, see (DRDC1-17291) and documentation on Redis.
  • CERTIFICATES: TLS Certificates for Control-M improvements. For details, see (DRDC1-18096) and documentation on TLS Certificate Discovery.
  • CONTAINER: Added ability to perform discovery of Kubernetes/Openshift by accessing it via Proxy. For details, see (DRUD1-34838) and documentation on Adding credentials.
  • CONTAINER: Added support of Ingress Services. For details, see (DRDC1-17385) and documentation on Kubernetes.
  • CLOUD: Added new region for Amazon Web Services - Asia Pacific (Jakarta). For details, see (DRDC1-18102) and documentation on Amazon Supported Cloud Regions.
  • MODELING: Enhanced model in the Microsoft Lync/Skype for Business Cluster. For details, see (DRDC1-13426) and documentation on Microsoft Lync Server.

We have also:

  • STORAGE: Provided support for the new storage device - Dell EMC PowerStore Storage array. For details, see (DRDC1-15282) and documentation on Storage Systems Information.
  • STORAGE: Have started supporting the QNAP storage systems. For more details, see Release Notes and Notices.

  • Several ServiceNow CMDB Sync mapping issues have been resolved in this release. Please visit this page for details.

Latest Releases Updates

  • From TKU December we now report security information for hardware where it is published in the US Government National Vulnerability Database.
This is in addition to reporting NVD information for Software Instances, Operating Systems and Network Devices.
  • We have introduced a new sync mapping pattern that maps Detail nodes with the type "TLS Certificate" to BMC_Document CIs. This mapping is enabled by default and could add additional data to the CMDB. For more information, see CDM Mapping for Host.
