Changing the address of a machine

When a cluster is in use, it might be necessary to change the address used to access a machine. For example, you might have used IP addresses to access machines but would now like to use hostnames.

To change the address of a machine

  1. From the main menu, click the Administration icon.
    The Administration page opens.
  2. In the Appliance section, click Cluster Management.
  3. From the Actions drop-down on the cluster machine row in the Current Members list, select Change Address.
The Change Member Address dialog is displayed.
  4. Enter the new IP address or hostname into the Address field using one of the following formats:
    • IPv4 address (for example Labeled v4.
    • IPv6 address (for example 2001:500:100:1187:203:baff:fe44:91a0). Labeled v6.
    • Hostname (for example Labeled Hn.
  5. If you are changing the address of the machine whose UI you are using, click the additional Show Known Addresses to show all of the addresses that refer to this machine.
    1. Click on a displayed address to populate the Address field.
  6. Click OK to change the address.
This becomes a pending change that needs to be committed before the address is changed.
  7. Click Commit Changes to change the address.
If the hostname or address entered does not refer to the correct machine, then the changes have not been applied.

Is there a process for when you need to change the IP address for a cluster member where the IP is cannot be assigned until the machine has been moved? We have a situation where the cluster members will be moved to an entirely different VLAN segment and given IPs that are not routable or "assignable" on the current segment where they are located. Therefore, we cannot change the IPs to the new address because the cluster management interface cannot reach the host at the new IP address. The above process does not allow the change to take place because when assigning the future IP, the cluster cannot reach the host at the address and doesn't initiate the change to be committed. Is there a manual or command line process that will support migrating a cluster to a new network segment or is it necessary to do a clean installation?
