Managing a CMDB sync connection
Additional configuration and management tasks can be performed on individual CMDB sync connections. These are accomplished from the Manage CMDB Connection page:
To view the Manage CMDB Connection page, click the name of a CMDB sync connection on the CMDB sync home page.
An Actions drop down enables you to perform the following actions on the connection:
- Delete the CMDB Connection
- Enable or Disable Continuous Sync
- Pause or Resume Sync
- Disable or Enable Sync
- Reset counters
The Manage CMDB Connection page is displayed showing the status tab. The other tabs are introduced below:

Provides a two stage filter which enables you to first filter the root nodes, using the BMC Atrium Discovery model, to sync to the CMDB and then perform a second filter on the CIs in the generated model. This page has two sub pages accessed using the following buttons:
You can check which root nodes will be allowed through the filter specified on the ADDM filter page, by following the link at the bottom of that page labelled "Click here to see the current candidate set". After selecting node(s) from the list that appears, and clicking the CMDB Sync Preview button above the list, a Software Context view of CIs corresponding to those nodes can be displayed, together with highlighting of any CIs filtered by the settings on the CMDB filter page. The highlighting distinguishes explicitly filtered CIs from those that are implicitly filtered (only connected to the model by explicitly filtered nodes).
CMDB synchronization can occur at any time by default. To prevent CMDB access for a connection during sensitive times, you can configure blackout windows. During a blackout window, all processing of the CMDB synchronization queue for that connection is paused. New nodes can still be scheduled for synchronization, by continuous or manual synchronization, but no processing occurs until the blackout window ends.

Occasionally the model stored in the CMDB dataset becomes out of step with the shadow copy for a CMDB connection and require resynchronization. For example, if CMDB tools have been used to modify the dataset. In this case, when updates are written to non-existent nodes, instance errors are raised. When BMC Atrium Discovery registers these instance errors, a resynchronization is recommended. In other cases such as after upgrade to version 10.2 or the creation of a new CMDB sync connection, a resynchronization is mandatory, and CMDB sync is disabled until the resynchronization is complete.
