Installing BMC Digital Workplace
Before you begin
To plan your BMC Digital Workplace deployment, complete the steps in Planning, which includes information about system requirements and sizing your environment.
Stage 1: Prepare for installation
Complete the following tasks:
|1||Complete installation worksheets for Digital Workplace.||Before you start installing the products, you must gather information about the parameters that the installer requires for each product. The planning spreadsheet provided in this section helps you gather these parameter values. To avoid installation errors, refer to this spreadsheet when you run the installation.|
|2||Download the BMC Digital Workplace installation files.||This topic explains how to obtain the files that you need for installation from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site.|
|3||Install 64-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 8 or 11, or install OpenJDK 11.|
Install JRE or OpenJDK on all the servers where you will install BMC Digital Workplace. Set the Java Home path.
|4||Pre-create the database.|
If you have database access restrictions and cannot allow the BMC Digital Workplace installer to create a database, a DBA can create a pre-existing database.
|5||(Linux) Review Requirements for a non-root user to run the installer||If a non-root user will run the installer in a Linux environment, a system administrator must set the needed permissions.|
|6||Install the ITSM integration patch.|
Before you install BMC Digital Workplace, install the BMC Digital Workplace ITSM integration patch on your BMC Remedy ITSM server. This patch enables BMC Remedy ITSM to work with BMC Digital Workplace. Without this patch, timelines, email notifications, and social features will not work in BMC Digital Workplace.
If you have installed BMC Remedy ITSM 18.08 Patch 1 or later, and also installed the Remedy ITSM Version 18.08.00 Patch 001 Deployment Management Package for BMC Digital Workplace 18.11.00 patch, you do not need to download and install the BMC Digital Workplace ITSM Integration Patch Version 18.05.00 patch from the BMC Digital Workplace installation files.
The Remedy ITSM Version 18.08.00 Patch 001 Deployment Management Package for BMC Digital Workplace 18.11.00 patch will work with BMC Digital Workplace for all versions between 18.11.00 and 19.05.00.
|7||(Linux) Installing the package to launch the UI installer (on Linux).|
On a Linux environment, to invoke the UI installer for installing BMC Digital Workplace, you must download a package containing Xorg libraries.
Stage 2: Install BMC Digital Workplace

Silent installation reads the parameters provided in the

The installer performs the following pre-install checks before proceeding with the installation:
Installation does not proceed if the pre-install check detects inconsistencies in the required components.

Stage 3: Configure BMC Digital Workplace
Perform the following tasks before you validate that installation was successful.
This section describes the tasks to be performed after installing BMC Digital Workplace. It includes the following topics:
- Configuring SSL for the Tomcat server — To provide communication security among applications, configure SSL for the Apache Tomcat server. If you enabled SSL as part of the installation, SSL is already configured.
- Configuring BMC Digital Workplace for Remedy Single Sign-On — BMC Remedy Single Sign-On authentication applies to browsers and mobile applications. When a user logs on to a mobile device, the user is prompted to enter the host name and port. If the server has SSO enabled, the mobile client opens a browser to the SSO login page. The SSO server sets the SSO cookies after authentication on to the device browser. When the user relaunches the application, if the cookies are not expired, the mobile client displays the application. If the cookies are expired, the
- Making configuration changes to integrated applications — You can change the settings that Product name library uses to connect to BMC Service Request Management, BMC Remedy IT Service Management, and BMC Remedy Action Request System (BMC Remedy AR System, dedicated to the Product name library application).
- Configuring multitenancy — The multitenancy feature provides the ability to segregate all data by operating company and customer company. This topic describes how to configure Product name library so that configuration data it provides is restricted to a specific tenant company.
- Modifying ports for BMC Digital Workplace — This topic provides instructions to change the Product name library server port after installation. You might need to change the ports if you did not specify an open port during installation, or if these ports are in use.
- Transferring data between environments — The Data Transfer tool, available with a Product name library installation is a set of multiple scripts that work in conjunction to export and import Product name library data between different Product name library environments.

Before you deploy BMC Digital Workplace to users, perform additional administration tasks.
Stage 4: Deploy BMC Digital Workplace clients to users
