Setting up sections in the Unified Catalog

The BMC MyIT Unified Catalog enables you release services from any configured providers. Group services into different sections for request by BMC MyIT end users.

In this topic:

Creating a new Unified Catalog section

  1. On the Service Requests tab, choose Unified Catalog > Catalog Sections.
  2. Click Add.

  3. Enter the name for the Unified Catalog section in the language of the default locale.
  4. (Optional) Select alternate locale drop downs and enter the name in the language of the corresponding locale.
  5. Select either of the following:
    • Link predefined groups: Associate this section with a BMC Service Request Management or BMC MyIT Service Broker category.
    • Choose items to add to section: Add items from any available item category to this section.

    Important

    This selection is available only when creating a new Unified Catalog section.

  6. Add service items or service categories as described below.

Adding individual service items to a Unified Catalog section

Important

You can add services from any configured service providers, such as BMC AppZone, BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, BMC MyIT Service Broker, and BMC Service Request Management. In addition, you can add How To Items and Quick Links that are configured in BMC MyIT.

If you are adding BMC Service Request Management and BMC MyIT Service Broker items, you can also link predefined categories instead of individual items.

  1. On the Service Requests tab, select Unified Catalog > Catalog Sections.
  2. Select the Unified Catalog section where items will be added.
  3. Select Items to Add to Section.

  4. From the Available items list, select a service category with the items to add.
    (Optional) You can also search for categories that contain service items with names that match the text you enter. Multiple words are searched as a phrase.
  5. Select items from the column on the right. Use CTRL+Click to select multiple individual items, or SHIFT+Click to select a list of items.
  6. Click Add Selected Items.
  7. (Optional) Instead of choosing specific items, click Add All Items to add all the items within a single category.
  8. Repeat until you have completed adding the items required in this catalog section.

Linking predefined groups to a Unified Catalog section

Important

If you did not select Link predefined groups to this section when you created the Unified Catalog section, then you must create a new section.

  1. On the Service Requests tab, choose Unified Catalog > Catalog Sections.
  2. Choose the Unified Catalog section where categories will be linked.
  3. From the Available items list, select a service category to link.

  4. Click Link Selected Category. You can link only one item category to this section.

Configuring the Unified Catalog display

  1. Choose a Sort Order and the Number of Items to display on desktop.

    Sort order

    The sort order affects the sort order of the main unified catalog page only.

    • Choose Alphabetically to have the system automatically sort the catalog tiles.
    • Choose Custom to manually arrange the items using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

    Number of items displayed on desktop

    • Choose Carousel to display all service item tiles for a section on the main unified catalog page.
    • Choose 8, 12, or 16 to limit the number of service tiles for a section on the main unified catalog page.
      The user can click View All to see all the section tiles.
  2. Click Save when complete.

Displaying the Unified Catalog section in BMC MyIT

  1. On the Service Requests tab, choose Unified Catalog > Settings.
  2. From the column on the left, choose the Unified Catalog section to display.
  3. Click Add >.

  4. In the column on the right, reorder the Unified Catalog sections.
  5. Click Save to complete.

Removing a Unified Catalog section

  1. On the Service Requests tab, choose Unified Catalog > Catalog Sections.
  2. Choose the Unified Catalog section to remove.
  3. Click Remove.
