Planning worksheets
This topic helps you gather information prior to your implementation to allow for a smooth start. Use the attached spreadsheet to gather:
- Sizing information that can help you plan your deployment
- Implementation decisions that can help you choose uses cases and plan how to implement them
- Data requirements for information and images that the BMC Digital Workplace administrator can upload
To size your deployment
Gather information on the Sizing information tab of the planning spreadsheet.
To choose use cases and plan implementation
To learn about the use cases, see Use cases. For additional considerations and to plan implementation, use the Implementation decisions tab of the planning spreadsheet to consider:
- Services information for assistance and health capabilities—BMC Digital Workplace administrators can define the services to make available to BMC Digital Workplace users.
- Assistance information—BMC Digital Workplace end users can use the end user console to request services and to use knowledge from the Catalog.
Schedule appointment information—When setting up staff availability calendars, you need to know how many of your staff will be available on a given day so thatBMC Digital Workplace users can see the available appointment slots.
Use the End user information section of the Implementation decisions tab of the planning spreadsheet to plan:
- How to provide accounts for business users
- Whether to roll out the mobile applications as part of your deployment
- How much you might want to customize the interface
To plan to upload data to BMC Digital Workplace
Use the Data requirements tab of the planning spreadsheet to plan:
- Which assets to bring into BMC Digital Workplace.
- Which images to bring into BMC Digital Workplace.
For more information about using logo images and background images to rebrand, see Rebranding BMC Digital Workplace.
Comments
The Planning worksheet only seems to gather information but doesn't provide output on number of servers required to support the data. Where are the sizing guidelines?
Thanks for your comment, Scott Skeate.
Please let us know if you have specific questions about the sizing guidelines. We have some information available for BMC Digital Workplace Catalog here → BMC Digital Workplace Catalog 20.02 performance.
Thanks,
Ravee
Ok, If I have 100 Concurrent users, how many DWP servers do I need? If I have 500 Concurrent users, how many DWP servers do I need? If I have 1000 Concurrent users, how many DWP servers do I need? If I have 5000 Concurrent users, how many DWP servers do I need? How many do I need with and without DWP Catalog?
I'm not seeing that type of information. What I've seen is the servers sizing that you tested with. And all your testing apparently did DWP on CentOS. What about on Windows servers that DWP will also run on? What kind of server specs do you recommend? (Yes, I know DWP Catalog can only run on CentOS--which is a problem for some of my customers). Your multi user work load test results provide some indication of what may be required, but rough ballpark figures such as each DWP server will support approximately 250 users or 500 users or 1000 users, would also be useful. The spreadsheets as they are do nothing for me. I collect data with them, then what do I do with it? I have no reference as to how many servers I will need to support the data collected.
Thanks again, Scott.
Here's a Knowledge Article that provides the required details for the BMC Digital Workplace Server → https://communities.bmc.com/docs/DOC-118177. I will also update this topic to include this link.
Thanks,
Ravee
