Rebranding the Google Android client

As the BMC Digital Workplace administrator, you can use the Android Rebranding tool to rebrand the BMC Digital Workplace mobile clients. As the result you can deploy the customized application to end users who use Google Android devices.

Note

The Android Rebranding tool is compatible with BMC Digital Workplace 18.08 and later, and with Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems.

Android Rebranding tool options

The following illustration shows the Android Rebranding tool interface:

By using the Android Rebranding tool, you can apply the following changes to your BMC Digital Workplace application:

  • Set up new colors instead of the default BMC colors to represent your corporate style:
    • Primary color—the color for the background navigation bar and left menu.
    • Accent color—the color for the navigation bar bottom line and active controls.
    • Text color—the color for the navigation bar text and left menu text.
  • Set up the application icon—the image that is displayed as the application shortcut on the mobile screen.
    The following image resolutions are available:
    • mdpi—48x48 pixels
    • hdpi—72x72 pixels
    • xhdpi—96x96 pixels
    • xxhdi—144x144 pixels
    • xxxhdpi—192x192 pixels
  • Set up the login icon—the image that is displayed as the logo on the sign-in screen. 
    The available image resolution is 600x300 pixels.
  • Set up the login background—the background image that is displayed on the sign-in screen.
    The following image resolutions of the portrait orientation are available:
    • mdpi—552x850 pixels
    • hdpi—828x1275 pixels
    • xhdpi—1104x1700 pixels
    • xxhdi—1656x2550 pixels
    • xxxhdpi—2208x3400 pixels
    The following image resolutions of the landscape orientation are available:
    • mdpi—692x552 pixels
    • hdpi—1039x828 pixels
    • xhdpi—1385x1104 pixels
    • xxhdi—2077x1656 pixels
    • xxxhdpi—2769x2208 pixels
  • Enable the Auto Login feature, and set the server environment to help your end users avoid configuring the server manually while logging in to the application.

Note

As a part of the rebranding process, you can also change your application package parameters to distribute the BMC Digital Workplace application as your own. For more information, see Preparing the rebranded Google Android application for distribution.


Before you begin

Download and install the Java Runtime Environment  so that you can use the Android Rebranding tool.

To rebrand the Google Android Client

  1. Open the Android Rebranding tool.
  2. Select File > Open apk-file, and load your BMC Digital Workplace application.
  3. (Optional) Click the Colors tab, enter new color values in the corresponding fields, and then click Apply.

    Note

    You must fill in all fields (the Primary color field, the Accent color field, and the Text color field) to be able to save the changes.

  4. (Optional) To rebrand the application icon, perform the following actions: 

    • Go to Graphics > Icons.
    • In the application icon section, upload the appropriate images.
    • Click Apply.

    Note

    You must upload the icon images of all provided resolutions to be able to save the changes.

  5. (Optional) To rebrand the login icon, perform the following actions:
    • Go to Graphics > Icons.
    • In the login icon section, upload the appropriate images.
    • Click Apply.
  6. (Optional) To rebrand the login background, perform the following actions: 

    • Go to Graphics > Login background.
    • Upload the appropriate images of the portrait orientation and the landscape orientation.
    • Click Apply.

    Note

    You must upload the background images of all provided orientations and resolutions to be able to save the changes.

  7. Click the Pack-apk file button, and choose an appropriate directory to save your rebranded application.

To enable the Auto Login feature

  1. Open the Android Rebranding tool.
  2. Select File > Open apk-file, and load your BMC Digital Workplace application.
  3. Click the Environment tab.



  4. Select the Enable Auto Login check box.
  5. In the Auto Server field, enter the necessary server value.
  6. In the Auto Port field, enter the necessary port value.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click the Pack-apk file button, and choose a directory to save your application that has the Auto Login feature enabled.

      Thank you for the question. When you install DWP, you will find AndroidRebrandingTool.jar. The path to the DWP file system is bmc/DWP/DWP/IPA/download/utils.
