Customizing icons

An icon can be displayed for each item and category in the Catalog. You can use custom icons from the following integrated applications:

  • MyIT Service Broker
  • BMC Service Request Management
  • BMC HR Case Management

In addition, you can use icons installed with MyIT or you can upload custom icons in MyIT. If icons are not provided from the integrated applications and you do not specify the icon, then a default icon from MyIT is used.

To upload custom icons in MyIT

If your custom icons do not come from integrated applications, you can upload them in MyIT. In addition, you can override icons from integrated applications with custom icons. Image files for custom icons have the following restrictions:

File sizeLess than 500 KB
Formatjpeg, png, or gif
DimensionsOptimal dimensions are 300 x 300 pixels. There are no restrictions on dimensions; if you face issues with the appearance of the icons when viewing in certain browsers, you might use a graphics program to crop or resize the image to the optimal dimensions.

To use custom icons from BMC Service Request Management

If you set images for SRDs or for SRD categories, you can display them in MyIT instead of the generic icons by performing the following steps:

  1. From the MyIT Administration Console, select More > Configuration.
  2. Select SRM pluggable provider.
  3. Change the value of useExternalIcon to true.
  4. Click Reload providers.

To use custom icons from BMC HR Case Management

If you set images for Solutions or for Solution categories, you can display them in MyIT instead of the generic icons by performing the following steps:

  1. From the MyIT Administration Console, select More > Configuration.
  2. Select HRCM - service catalog pluggable provider.
  3. Change the value of useExternalIcon to true.
  4. Click Reload providers.

    How to customize icons for 'Quick Launch' type SRDs in MyIT. I don't see them in 'Available Requests' field under 'Service Requests -> Configure'

      Andrius, MyIT does not support Quick Launch SRDs. For a list of supported SRDs, please refer Support for service request definitions from BMC Service Request Management.

    Another question on the same topic - 300x300 pixels icons does not look good on IE11. Seems they are resized to 62x62 by the browser and looks bad. If you resize the icon to 62x62 by a normal imaging software and upload this size - it looks good on the browser.

    Also, as I created duplicate icons while experimenting - how to remove icons I no longer need in MyIT?

      There is currently no provision to delete uploaded icons. The appearance of the icon, to some extent, is dependent on the browser. A different browser may render the same image differently. Since there are no restrictions on the image dimensions, you could use a size that best suits your requirements.
