Troubleshooting data transfer issues

The BMC Digital Workplace Data Transfer tool enables you to transfer BMC Digital Workplace data between different BMC Digital Workplace environments, such as:

  • From a preproduction environment to production environment
  • In a multitenant environment between two tenants so that both tenants have same data

This topic describes different, occasional issues you might face during the data transfer, and also provides corrective actions to resolve those issues.

Important

Use the corrective actions with caution. This list of issues is not an exhaustive, and there might be other reasons for failure that require an in-depth analysis. For further help, contact BMC Support .

IssueCorrective actions
You cannot access source and target databases.Ensure that you have the required permissions to access the BMC Digital Workplace source and target database servers.
You have network issues while accessing the source and target servers.Any network issues might cause the interruption of data transfer. You cannot roll back failed a data transfer. Ensure that you have a stable network connection to the source and target database.
Data transfer fails during export or import.

You cannot roll back the data transfer. You must re-run the utility to export the data and import it again. Before you re-run the utility, ensure that the following probable causes of failure are resolved:

  • Ensure that the configuration of variables in the  set_env.bat or set_env.sh file, and db.connections.properties file is correct.
  • Verify that the tables in the source and target BMC Digital Workplace database servers are running and the tables are accessible.

There is insufficient space on your disk and you get an error.

Perform the following actions:
  • Free up some disk space on the computer where you are creating the data export.
  • In the run_export or data_dump script, enter the following value:
    ${JAVA_EXEC} -classpath "${lib_folder}" -Dlogback.configurationFile="${logback_path}" -Djava.io.tmpdir=/<pathToTmpdir>

Replace pathToTmpdir with the actual path of the Temp directory.
