Quick start for super administrators

This topic is intended for IT managers and administrators who are responsible for rolling out BMC Digital Workplace to their organization. This topic can help you get started, whether you are currently using BMC Service Request Management or are new to self-service.

As a super administrator in BMC Digital Workplace, you have all capabilities of a regular administrator and some super administrative options.

External user portal

An external user portal is used by end users who are not internal to your organization (referred to as  external users ) and is primarily managed by an administrator of an external portal (referred to as an  external administrator ).

An external user portal functions as a subtenant of your regular BMC Digital Workplace application. By using this option, you can manage internal and external business processes separately, and configure and customize regular and external BMC Digital Workplace tenants separately.

Portal of external users

The following additional product roles are applicable to an external user portal.

External administrator

External administrators are the BMC Digital Workplace administrators of an external user portal. From the Admin console, these administrators configure and expose an external portal for external users and manage external users.

External user

External users are the end users of an external user portal. External users have access to a limited set of features and use an external portal to request services.

For more information about the portal of external users, see Portal for external users.

Subtenants

A subtenant in BMC Digital Workplace represents a company-level configuration. Subtenants are isolated from each other and only administrators of the subtenant or super administrators can set up configuration for a subtenant.

The following diagram illustrates company-level access to subtenants in BMC Digital Workplace.

Essential tasks as a BMC Digital Workplace super administrator

As a super administrator in the BMC Digital Workplace,  in addition to all tasks of a BMC Digital Workplace administrator, you can perform tasks described  in this section.

Prepare an external user portal

As a super administrator, you can prepare an external portal before an external administrator can manage the portal. You must set up an external company and assign an external administrator. Additionally, you can manage the visibility of the knowledge articles.

You can assign an external administrator to configure, manage, and expose an external portal to external users. For information about how to create an external users portal, see Preparing an external portal for external administrators.
