Localizing catalog items

By using the multi-language feature, the catalog administrator can add services, service bundles, service templates, service actions, service categories, and asset groups in multiple languages. The catalog administrator can also provide specific versions of promotional banners for the end users in different locales (or with different browser localization settings).

Important

To see the full list of languages and locales that BMC Digital Workplace Catalog supports, go to Supported languages and locales.

Localization use case

With the multi-language feature of BMC Digital Workplace Catalog, a company can present different content for different BMC Digital Workplace users.

For example, one service can be published in two or more languages for two or more audiences, based on the spoken language of each audience. The service description and banners for the promotion of this service can contain specific informational messages, based on the characteristics of the locale and its employees.

BMC Digital Workplace users see the variant of a published catalog item according to their locale or the locale set in their browser settings. For example, if a BMC Digital Workplace Catalog administrator publishes the same service—in English and French, BMC Digital Workplace end users will have access to the following variations:

  • Users from the English locale see the English variant of the published service.
  • Users from the French locale see the French variant of the published service.
  • Users from Canada with an English locale in their browser settings see the English variant of the published service.
  • Users from Canada with a French locale in their browser settings see the French variant of the published service.

Important

The summaries of imported catalog items that are displayed in a user’s “My Activities” page are always displayed in the item’s original language.
