To install BMC Digital Workplace on a single server

Best practice

Do not use Xming to install the BMC Digital Workplace server, because it might not perform reliably during installation. Instead, we recommend that you use VNC, MobaXterm, or any other client.

  1. Unzip the suite installer (for example, DigitalWorkplacexx.xx.windows.zip (Windows) or DigitalWorkplacexx.xx.linux.tar.gz (Linux)—where "xx.xx" represents the version number).
  2. In the unzipped directory, navigate to the Disk 1 subfolder (for example, DigitalWorkplacexx.xx.windows\windows\DWP\Disk1 (Windows) or DigitalWorkplacexx.xx.linux/linux/DWP/Disk1/ (Linux).
  3. Start the installer:
    • For Windows, run setup.exe.
    • For Linux, run setup.bin.

  4. In the Introduction pane, click Next.
  5. In the License Agreement pane, review and accept the license agreement, and click Next.
  6. In the User Inputs pane, review the destination directory and the 64-bit JRE or OpenJDK path, and click Next
If either of the paths are not auto-populated, or if you prefer an alternate location, click Browse and navigate to the required folder. For example:
    • For Windows, C:\Program Files\BMC Software\DWP and C:\Program Files\Java\jrex.x.x_xxx
    • For Linux, /opt/bmc/dwp and /usr/bin/java
  7. (Optional) To preconfigure RSSO integration, select the Enable RSSO check box, specify RSSO external URL and RSSO internal URL, and click Next
The RSSO parameters that you configure during a fresh installation are saved in the database table DWP_System.CONFIGURATION_SETTINGS and are used to configure RSSO integration in other nodes of the existing cluster.
If you use a self-signed certificate, the installation screen shows a warning. You can continue the installation process, but apply a trusted certificate as soon as possible.
  8. Enter the values from the Installation worksheets for BMC Digital Workplace for the features that you want to install.
After you have entered the required information, the installer validates your input. The Installation Preview pane then appears, listing the product and features that will be installed.
  9. Click Install.
After post-installation cleanup, a summary of the installation appears.
  10. Click View Log to review any SEVERE error messages or warnings in the product installer log.
Check if errors are due to network, host, or other environment-related issues. You can view a log file of the installation:
    • For Windows, C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\digital_workplace_install_log.txt
    • For Linux, /tmp/digital_workplace_install_log.txt
  11. When you are finished reviewing the log, close it.
  12. Click Done to exit the installer.
