Preparing a system for a BMC Digital Workplace Catalog upgrade

You might need to coordinate with your organization's IT department to perform the following tasks before upgrading BMC Digital Workplace Catalog.

Before you begin

Review the completed Upgrade worksheet for BMC Digital Workplace Catalog.

To prepare a system for upgrade

You must have enough disk space on the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server for a backup directory. It is of the same size as the original installation directory.

1Create a full backup of the database.
2Create a snapshot of the application server or application file structure.
3Back up the file system.

Empty the /tmp folder on the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server by performing the following steps:

  1. Type $ /opt/bmc/digitalworkplace/dwpcontroller stop to stop down the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server.
  2. Delete all the files from the /tmp folder.
  3. Type $ /opt/bmc/digitalworkplace/dwpcontroller start -u Demo -p Passw0rd! to start the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server.

Verify that the user name and password values match the DB credentials to access the tenant database. See  this BMC Communities post Open link for relevant information.

(Optional) If you are using BMC Service Request Management, record the list of service request definitions (SRD) that were imported into BMC Digital Workplace Catalog.

7(Optional) If you are using Atrium CMDB, record the name of the dataset used for the reconciliation job with BMC.ASSET.

(Optional) If your server contains any custom libraries or jar files that are are not part of the standard BMC Digital Workplace Catalog installation, back up the custom libraries or jar files.
