20.02.01: Patch 1

This topic contains information about fixes and updates in this patch, and provides instructions for downloading and installing the patch.

Updates

Include requests and approvals on the Top Hits tab

This patch includes improvements to the search of requests and approvals. In 20.02, they are loaded separately from other sections on the Top Hits tab of the  BMC Digital Workplace  end user console. After this patch is installed, users can see requests and approvals loaded along with catalog items, articles, appointments, and other sections on the Top Hits tab.

For more information about including requests and approvals in the main search call, see Configuring search results.

For more information about the search mechanism of BMC Digital Workplace, see Search in BMC Helix Digital Workplace.

Use Date and Date & Time question responses to configure date restrictions

Functionality introduced in version 19.02 allows you to use the Date or Date & Time form elements to specify a fixed date or a date relative to the request date. End users are restricted to selecting a date based on the predefined date restrictions. In addition to the following options, t his patch allows you to use Question Response with an optional offset to specify the start and end of the time window. The new option allows you to compute a date restriction based on user response.

  • No limit
  • Request Date with an optional offset
  • Specific Date

For more information, see Adding questions to a questionnaire. You can also configure the date restriction while designing custom surveys for enhanced services.

Set visibility rules for user groups

The functionality introduced in version 20.02 allows you to configure groups of users that end users can add as collaborators to a service request. This patch allows you to set one of the following visibility rules to make the user groups available for adding as collaborators:

  • Everyone
  • Group Members
  • Custom

For more information, see People groups.

Allow users to add user groups to their default collaborator group

BMC Digital Workplace end users can now add user groups to their default groups. This allows end users to leverage the groups set up in BMC Digital Workplace Catalog.

For more information, see  Collaborating with users on service requests.

Additional process context variable parameters

A new group of properties named Order is now available with the following properties. Use these properties to define the threshold cost used to determine the need for additional approvals based on the cost of an order.

  • orderOneTimeCost
  • orderMonthlyCost
  • orderYearlyCost
  • orderOneTimeCostAmount
  • orderMonthlyCostAmount
  • orderYearlyCostAmount

The following properties were moved from Service to Order:

  • orderId
  • orderGuid
  • orderDescription

For more information, see Process context variable parameters reference.

Filter active and past events

This patch includes updates to the filtering of Active and Past events. All the applied filters appear in the form of green pills. You can cancel the pills to revert to the previous view. You can now:

  • Filter Active and Past events by the default or custom date range, which simplifies the work with multiple requests:
  • Filter Active events in the Card view. This option is now available for web and mobile apps:
  • Filter Past events by text and customize the label of filtered Past events:

For more information about the search logic of BMC Digital Workplace, see Search in BMC Helix Digital Workplace.

To customize the tabs of filtered events, see Configuring the labels used in BMC Digital Workplace.

Display the correct request details for services with alternate approvers

In earlier versions, BMC Digital Workplace displayed only the name of the original approver in the request details even if the alternate approver took some actions on the request. This patch enables end users to see who is actually an acting person in the request details.

For example, Sam (the original approver) assigns Bob as the alternate approver. Mary (the end user) requests a service that needs Sam's approval. Bob is assigned to approve Mary's service request. Bob approves the request. Mary and Sam see Bob's name in the service request details:

For more information about alternate approvers, see Delegating to alternate approvers. For the approval process overview, see Approving users' business requests.

Configure approvals search

This patch includes two new SRM provider settings for approvals search. With the first setting, you can configure the search so that it shows only active or inactive approvals. The second setting enables you to search for active and inactive approvals in the specified time span. For more information about the new SRM provider settings, see List of providers.

Preconfigure RSSO integration during a BMC Digital Workplace fresh installation

When performing a fresh installation of this patch, you can preconfigure RSSO integration from the installation screen. You do not need to create and configure the rsso-agent.properties file. If you use a self-signed certificate, the installation screen shows a warning that using a self-signed certificate presents a security risk. You can continue the installation process of BMC Digital Workplace, but we recommend that you apply a trusted certificate later. For more information about the BMC Digital Workplace installation, see Installing BMC Digital Workplace on a single server.

BMC Digital Workplace Catalog configuration wizard validations

The functionality introduced in version 20.02 allows you to use a command-line interface configuration wizard to create a new options configuration file for installing BMC Digital Workplace Catalog. This patch uses the wizard to perform additional validations such as checking the database connection and the write permissions on the disk. For more information on using the configuration wizard, see Running the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog installer.

Integrating with BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management

BMC Digital Workplace is now compatible with version 4.7 of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. For more information, see 20.02.01: Patch 1.

Installer support for Apache Tomcat 9

Apache Tomcat 9 is now supported. If Tomcat is not already installed on the system, the BMC Digital Workplace installer automatically prompts you to install Tomcat 9.

iOS push notifications in BMC Digital Workplace

The Apple Push Notification service (APNs) will no longer support the legacy binary protocol after March 31, 2021. As a result, iOS push notifications in BMC Digital Workplace version 20.02 or earlier will not work after March 31, 2021. To keep receiving iOS push notifications, we recommend that you upgrade BMC Digital Workplace to 20.02 Patch 1 (20.02.01) or later.

If you are using BMC Digital Workplace 19.05 to 19.11, you can download and install the cumulative hot fix. Cumulative hot fixes for BMC Digital Workplace version 19.05 to 20.02 are currently available at the FTP location listed in  Knowledge Article 000164912 Open link .

To upgrade BMC Digital Workplace Catalog in a server group

To prepare the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog primary server for the upgrade

Perform the following tasks to remove the primary server from the cluster temporarily so that you can upgrade BMC Digital Workplace Catalog.

  1. Log in to the primary server with the credentials of the user account that will perform the upgrade.
  2. Open the ar.conf file in a text editor. If you installed BMC Digital Workplace Catalog in the default location, run the following command:

Example of opening the vi text editor to edit the ar.conf file
    vi /<installationDirectory>/conf/ar.conf
  3. Search for the Server-Group-Member parameter, and set the value to F. Only the primary server must be removed from the cluster before the upgrade.

  4. Restart the primary server for the setting to take effect.

For example, if you installed BMC Digital Workplace Catalog in the default location, run the following commands to stop and restart the server. Replace the user name Demo and the password Passw0rd! with your system credentials.

Example of stopping and restarting the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server
    $ /<installation directory>/dwpcontroller stop

(... wait for the console to stop displaying messages ...)

    $ /<installation directory>/dwpcontroller start -u Demo -p Passw0rd!

To upgrade each of the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog secondary servers in the cluster

You do not need to modify the configuration of the secondary servers. Proceed to upgrade BMC Digital Workplace Catalog on each secondary server one after another. The BMC Digital Workplace Catalog cluster will still process end user requests through the BMC Digital Workplace application by reading the cached data on the secondary servers that have not yet been upgraded.
