User goals and features for end users

BMC Digital Workplace is highly configurable. Features available to users in the client applications depend on which functionality is enabled and how BMC Digital Workplace is configured.

BMC Digital Workplace web browser client

BMC Digital Workplace can be accessed from a web browser on your desktop or laptop. The following capabilities are available for the web browser client:

  • Accessing AIF-type requests from the catalog. AIF-type requests use the Advanced Interface form from BMC Service Request Management.
  • Opening e-Forms from BMC HR Case Management. (However, you can open PDF form attachments from BMC Helix Platform all clients.)
  • Requesting virtual machines (VMs) (through integration with BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management).
  • Embedded custom pages from BMC Helix Platform.

The web browser client supports notifications. For more information about how notifications are received, see Configuring status updates and notifications.

Note

If an end user opens a BMC Digital Workplace request in BMC Helix Business Workflows and then adds both supported and unsupported attachment file types (such as zip or html), no attachments will appear when the request is opened again in BMC Digital Workplace.

Configuration options for the end user console

BMC Digital Workplace users can configure the following options:

  • Locale
To see a localized view of the web browser client, the user must set the locale in the browser.
  • User preferences
End users can access their preferences in the upper-right corner of the end user console.

The following table describes preferences that an end user can set up:

  • Notifications about approvals (this section is visible only to approvers)
  • Status updates and messages for service requests

Approval settings

End users can create approval delegation rules to temporarily delegate their requests to other users.

For more information about this feature, see Delegating business requests to alternate approvers.

Request settings

End users can create the default collaborators group to automatically share all new requests with the default group, or to manually share certain requests with the default group.

For more information about this feature, see Collaborating with users on service requests.

End users can set up their social preferences as follows:

  • Find and follow people
  • Create and add people to social groups, as well as search for existing groups and start following them
  • Find and follow locations
