Deploying clients
After you install BMC Digital Workplace and configure it, you can make BMC Digital Workplace available to your users via the Universal client (web browser) and mobile clients (Apple iOS and Google Android applications).
After you upgrade BMC Digital Workplace , you must prepare and distribute the appropriate BMC Digital Workplace mobile client.
To prepare the BMC Digital Workplace clients
Client | Preparation |
---|---|
Universal client | (Optional) Rebrand the Universal Client |
Apple iOS client |
|
Google Android client |
Warning
When you upgrade BMC Digital Workplace , rebranding changes to the Universal client and the iOS mobile clients do not persist. Before you upgrade, create a backup so that you can restore your changes after the upgrade.
If you need assistance with rebranding the application, contact BMC Support or your local account team.
To make the clients available
Client | Options |
---|---|
Universal client | Announce the URL to the universal client: https://DigitalWorkplaceServerName:port/dwp/app |
Mobile apps |
|
Note
BMC Digital Workplace supports the following AppConfig capabilities for Android (version 5.0 and above) and iOS (version 10.0 and above):
- App Configuration: Implements managed app configurations. The MDM key is
com.bmc.configuration.managed
which will in turn accept either of the following key-value pairs (setting these will always override any other settings):dwp
|server
dwp
|port
- App Tunnel: Leverages per-app VPN functionality (typically available in commercial VPN solutions). No development is required.
To make the mobile BMC Digital Workplace application available through a URL
Note
The following case is not applicable for App Store distribution scenarios. For information about App Store distribution, see Re-signing the Apple iOS client application for App Store distribution.
After you install BMC Digital Workplace , host the mobile clients on a valid HTTPS server with a valid certificate authority (CA) certificate. Apple requires a valid HTTPS server with a valid CA certificate for distributing native iOS applications. You can use the BMC Digital Workplace server for this purpose only if you configure it for HTTPS. Users can download mobile clients for Google Android and Apple iOS devices through the following web address:
https://digitalWorkplaceServerName:port/download-dwp
Replace digitalWorkplaceServerName:port with the web address for your BMC Digital Workplace or other HTTPS server on which you are hosting the mobile client.
The 32-bit Android mobile client can run on both 32-bit and 64-bit Android devices. For Android mobile app downloads, you might need to update your device settings to allow downloads from unknown sources.
Note
The following video shows an older version of BMC Digital Workplace. The previous product name was MyIT. Although there might be minor changes in the UI, the overall functionality remains the same.
Watch a video demonstration (4:29) that follows these steps.
