Notification of immediate action required by users of BMC Decision Support for Server Automation

This topic describes a hotfix that must be installed on BMC Decision Support for Server Automation (BDSSA).

Overview

BMC Software is alerting BMC Decision Support for Server Automation (BDSSA) users to an issue affecting the configuration of the solution. BMC has found that the installation of BMC Decision Support for Server Automation unintentionally creates more IBM Cognos users, with elevated privileges than customers will be licensed for, potentially causing customers to over-deploy licenses.

Impact

Applying this hotfix modifies the administration and reporting capabilities of your existing BDSSA users by implementing the following product changes:

Licensing

Access and authorization to BDSSA is on a named user basis. Therefore each user in BDSSA must be explicitly granted a license for their capabilities. Applying this hotfix will enforce this policy.

Reporting Administration

Applying the hotfix disables the IBM Cognos Administration link in BDSSA for all your existing users and the following Reports Administration capabilities will no longer be available to those BDSSA users:

In order for you to continue to perform the above functions, contact BMC Customer Support who will provide you with a single, restricted use, BI Web Administrator user who will continue to have rights to the IBM Cognos Administration activities. Also, review the restrictions associated with this BI Web Administrator user in the BDSSA  License entitlements Open link  page.
