PKI authentication

This topic explains how to use public key infrastructure (PKI) to authenticate users who present a type of smart card known as a Common Access Card (CAC).

BMC Decision Support for Server Automation supports the following types of PKI authentication:

  • Use PKI to protect only the Apache web server: This type of authentication protects only the web server and PKI is required to only load the reports portal logon page. After you log on to the reports portal by using CAC, you can choose other authentication methods also to log on to the reports portal. To configure the product for this authentication method, see Using PKI authentication to only protect the web server.
  • Use PKI to log on to the reports portal: In this type of authentication, you are prompted to choose a certificate required for PKI authentication. After making that selection, you insert the smart card and specify a PIN to access the logon screen for BMC Decision Support for Server Automation. To configure the product for this authentication method, see Using PKI authentication to log on to the reports portal.
