Installation error

On Windows, the installation or upgrade process stops progressing with the following message on the installation wizard:

IBM Cognos Products: btsv has stopped working

The installation log shows an error message similar to the following:

Execution of [D:\PROGRA~2\BMCSOF~1\BLADEL~1\8.1\Reports\cognos_installer\winx64h\issetup.exe -s D:\PROGRA~2\BMCSOF~1\BLADEL~1\8.1\Reports\portal\cognos.ats] failed.

This error occurs if COM+ related Windows components are disabled.

Solution: Complete the following steps and restart the installation or upgrade process:

  1. Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
  2. Expand Services and Applications and then double-click Services.
  3. Double-click COM+ Event System and ensure that that the Startup type option is set to Automatic.
  4. Double-click COM+ System Application and ensure that the Startup type option is set to Manual.
  5. Double-click Distributed Transaction Coordinator and ensure that the Startup type option is set to Automatic (Delayed Start).
  6. Restart the computer.
