Creating an options.txt file

When you run the installation program in silent mode, you must provide the installation parameters in an options.txt file. When you run the installation program from the installation wizard, the installation program prompts you for the installation parameters, but the wizard creates an options.txt file that you can use at a later time when running the installation silently.

To automatically generate an options.txt file

  1. Run an installation with the following option on a computer that you want to use as a model for silent installations on other computers:
    -DGENERATE_OPTIONS_FILE=AbsolutePathToOutputOptionsFile

AbsolutePathToOutputOptionsFile is the absolute path and name that you assign to the output file that contains the installation options.
Ensure that the model used for silent installation has the same version of BMC Decision Support for Server Automation as the actual installation. The password provided in options.txt will be used during actual installation. For information about password encryption, see Encrypting passwords for silent installations.
