Performing the upgrade

This topic describes scenarios and provides procedures for upgrading BMC Decision Support for Server Automation.

Before you begin

  • Review the information in Preparing for upgrade and complete all of the relevant tasks described in that topic.
  • Ensure that you have met all of the system requirements.

    Note

Cognos requires Oracle 32-bit client on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers. If you have 64-bit Oracle client with the 32-bit libraries copied into the lib32 directory from the previous installation, upgrade will not work as supported in previous releases.

If you have 64-bit client, an error message appears while installing BMC Decision Support for Server Automation. In that case, install the 32-bit client.

  • Ensure that databases are configured appropriately. For more information, see Database recommendations.
  • Review the operating systems that are no longer supported on the Product announcements page.
  • Assign the execute permission to the root user on the directory in which you have downloaded the binaries by using the following commands:
    chmod +x ./Disk1/setup.bin
    chmod +x ./Disk1/files/jre/bin/java
  • You must upgrade the product from a computer where X server is installed. Follow these steps before you upgrade the product from a computer with X server software:
    1. Start the X server software.
    2. Configure the security settings of the X server software to permit remote hosts to display X applications on the local system.

    3. Connect to the remote system where you want to install the product and start a terminal session on that system, for example, an X terminal (xterm).
