Product installation directory

The directory in which you want to install BMC Decision Support for Server Automation

Notes:

  • You must specify an absolute path for the installation directory; specifying a relative path causes the installation to fail.
  • On UNIX, you cannot install the product in a directory path that contains spaces.

Default location:

  • Fresh installation:
    • (Microsoft Windows) C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BDSSA 
    • (UNIX) /opt/bmc/BDSSA
  • Upgrade: This screen does not appear.

Agent logs installation directory

The directory in which you want the Agent logs to be stored when ETL is run


 

Default location:

  • Fresh installation:
    • (Microsoft Windows) BDSSAInstallationDirectory\AgentLogs 
    • (UNIX) BDSSAInstallationDirectory/AgentLogs
  • Upgrade: This screen does not appear.   

Database type

Type of database to be used by the product

Note: This screen does not appear when you are installing the product on UNIX.


 

Possible values:

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Oracle Database Server

Default value: 

  • Fresh installation: Microsoft SQL Server
  • Upgrade: This screen does not appear. 

Oracle Client path information

The directory in which you have installed the Oracle client (the ORACLE_HOME directory)

Note: Cognos requires Oracle 32-bit client on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

If you have installed 64-bit client, an error message appears. In that case, install the 32-bit client.

Default value:

  • Fresh installation: If value of the ORACLE_HOME variable is set, then value of ORACLE_HOME; otherwise, blank.
  • Upgrade from versions earlier than 8.5.x: Value from the previous installation
  • Upgrade from 8.5.x: This screen does not appear.

Cognos Installer zip file path information

The absolute file path of the downloaded Cognos installer zip file

By default, installer searches for the Cognos installer zip file in the directory from where you have invoked the installation program. If the Cognos installer zip file is not found, the installer prompts you for the current location of the Cognos zip file during the installation process. The installation program then validates the Cognos installer files. If the installer file is invalid, an error message appears.

Default value for fresh installation and for upgrade:   

<Path from where you have invoked the installation program>\<Default name of the downloaded Cognos installer zip file>

If a value is not provided or if the Cognos zip file is not found in the location that you specify, you are prompted for the current location of the Cognos zip file during the installation process.

BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Administrator password

Create a password for the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation user ID, BDSAdmin.

After the installation is complete, use the BDSAdmin user ID and this password to log on to the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Console to configure the product. After you configure the product by using the BDSAdmin user credentials and run extract, transform, and load (ETL) once, you can also use other user ID credentials to log on to the console. .  

Default value:

  • Fresh installation: None
  • Upgrade from versions earlier than 8.5.x: None
  • Upgrade from 8.5.x: This screen does not appear.

Communication protocol and ports information

The communication protocol for the product and the associated ports

The installation program validates the ports. If the specified ports are not free for use or not valid, an error message appears indicating the same. For information about ports, see Port requirements.

The following protocols are available:

  • HTTP
  • HTTPS (default protocol)

The following ports are used for the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Console and other communication:

  • Apache Webserver Port
  • Tomcat HTTP Port (If you select HTTPS, this port is not available)
  • Tomcat HTTPS Port
  • Tomcat Control Port
  • Authentication Server Port
  • Cognos Dispatcher Port

Default values for ports

  • Fresh installation: :
    • Apache Webserver Port: 443 (If you select HTTP, default value changes to 80)
    • Tomcat HTTP Port: 9080
    • Tomcat HTTPS Port: 9443
    • Tomcat Control Port: 9005
    • Authentication Server Port: 9640
    • Cognos Dispatcher Port: 9300
  • Upgrade: Default value is the protocol used in the previous installation. By default, the Apache Webserver port is not enabled for editing. If you used one of the protocols in the previous installation and now you select the second protocol, the Apache Webserver port is available for editing.

Tomcat Web Server certificate information

Used to generate the HTPPS certificate

Default values:

  • Common Name field: local host name
  • Organizational Unit (OU): None
  • Organization Name (O): None
  • Locality Name (L): None
  • State Name (L): None
  • Country (L): None

Tomcat Web Server Memory and System options

The initial and maximum memory allocation and any other startup options

Default values:

  • Initial Memory Allocation: 64 MB
  • Maximum Memory Allocation: 256 MB
  • Additional Startup Options: None
