SQL Server database support

This topic lists the supported versions of Microsoft SQL Server database and BMC recommendations for using the SQL Server database with BMC Decision Support for Server Automation.

Supported databases

The following SQL Server databases are supported for use with BMC Decision Support for Server Automation:

  • SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition*
  • SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition*
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition
  • SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition
  • SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition

Note

The databases marked with * are supported starting with version 8.5 SP1 of BMC Decision Support for Server Automation.

BMC recommendations

BMC recommends that you use the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server databases. While the product is designed to work with the Standard Edition of these databases, the Enterprise Edition offers better performance when managing large data volumes. Best practice recommendations for data warehousing also include the use of capabilities that are available in Enterprise Editions.

In addition, you need Bulk Copy Program (BCP), the database client software, on the reports server. To install BCP, run an SQL Server installable and choose the Client Tools Connectivity and Management Tools - Complete options during the installation.
