Preparing for upgrade

This topic describes tasks that you must perform before you upgrade BMC Decision Support – Network Automation.

To prepare for the upgrade

  1. Back up your entire BMC Decision Support – Network Automation environment, including the following:
    • Work and master repositories. See Backing up the databases.
    • The reports data warehouse. See Backing up the databases.
    • Custom (ad hoc) and out-of-box reports, and BusinessObjects Universe and Connection (required only if you are upgrading from version 8.2 or any of its service packs) 
      See Backing up the BusinessObjects contents.
    • Depending on the number of report instances, back up using one of the following steps:
      • If you have only one instance, right-click the report and choose View Latest Instance. Then, save the instance as a Web Intelligence report in a folder other than BMC Decision Support – BladeLogic Automation Suite.
      • If you have more than one instances of a report, right-click the report and choose History. From the history, view the instances one by one and save them as Web Intelligence report in a folder other than BMC Decision Support – BladeLogic Automation Suite.
  2. Install or upgrade SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence (BI) Platform as follows:

  3. If you have upgraded to version 4.2 SP 5 Patch 5, 4.2 SP 5, 4.1 SP 9 or 4.1 SP 6 of BusinessObjects BI platform, configure the JDBC drivers again to ensure that the BusinessObjects BI server has access to the BMC Decision Support – Network Automation data warehouse. For more information, see Configuring the JDBC drivers.
  4. Review the following information for BMC Decision Support – Network Automation and take steps as required:
    • Planning for system requirements and deployment scenarios.
    • (For versions 8.9.00 and 8.9.01) Installation worksheet where you can add your parameter values before you begin the product upgrade, so that you have them available during the upgrade.
      The installation worksheet automatically populates with values from your existing installation. You only need to record any parameter values that change from the last installation.
    • (For versions 8.9.02 and later) Installation worksheet where you can add your parameter values before you begin the product upgrade, so that you have them available during the upgrade. The installation worksheet automatically populates with values from your existing installation. You only need to record any parameter values that change from the last installation.
  5. (Required only if you are upgrading to version 8.9.00) If any user named bdstestuser2226 exists in the Central Management Console from a previous installation, delete that user.
  6. (Required only if you are upgrading to version 8.9.02.x from version 8.9.02) In the Central Management Console, delete the users (including the sysadmin user) that you had created to implement access control in BMC Decision Support – Network Automation.

    Important

    After the upgrade to version 8.9.02.004 or 8.9.02.005 is complete, and the Content Deployment utility is executed successfully, the bds_urgmapper_tsk is created on the BusinessObjects BI Platform. When this task runs, the user information is transferred again to the BusinessObjects BI Platform from the BMC Decision Support – Network Automation data warehouse.
