Modifying reports

You can modify reports if the role to which you are assigned has the required privileges (see User roles).

Note

BMC recommends that you do not modify out-of-the-box reports directly. If you want to change an out-of-the-box report, make a copy of it, save that copy to your Favorites folder, and modify the copy.

This topic describes how to modify reports and add dynamic fields to reports.

There are many changes that you can make to reports, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Title
  • Report format, including everything about the look of the report
  • Report type, such as graph, list, or chart
  • Query objects included in a report
  • Sorting
  • Use of drill downs and drill throughs
  • Data calculations
  • Report filters and prompts

For comprehensive information about modifying reports, see the SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence User's Guide at PDFs.

To modify a report

  1. Navigate to the reports as described in Running and viewing reports.
  2. Right-click on the report that you want to modify and select Modify.
  3. Make your changes to the report.
Select the tabs to make the associated changes, such as adding report objects on the Data Access tab or changing formatting on the Formatting tab.
  4. When you finish making your changes, click Save.

To add dynamic fields to a report

You can add a maximum of five dynamic fields to a report.

  1. Navigate to the reports as described in Running and viewing reports.
  2. Right-click on the report that you want to modify and select Modify.
  3. Click the Data Access tab and then click the Edit tab.
  4. Drag the dynamic field into the Result Objects area.
In the following example, two dynamic field objects from the Detail Detail > Device Dynamic Field folder have been added.
  5. When you run the report (using Run Query), you are prompted to provide values for the dynamic fields.
Provide the values at the prompts, as described in Running and viewing reports.
  6. Click OK.
The report runs. When the report is displayed, it includes columns for Dynamic Field1 and Dynamic Field2.
  7. You can edit the report to change the column names to something that represents the values displayed in that column. In this example, you might use Business Services and Description.
