Creating an options.txt file for silent upgrades

When you run the installation program from the installation wizard, the installation program prompts you for the installation parameters. When you run the installation program in silent mode, you must provide these parameters in the options.txt file. When you run the installation program from the wizard, it creates an options.txt file that you can use at a later time when running the installation silently.

Before you begin

Run the Maintenance Tool to encrypt the administrator password.

To create an options.txt file from a sample file

  1. Copy the contents of one or both of the following sample files into a new file depending on whether you want to install only one or both the BMC Decision Support products:

  2. Using the worksheets in Installation worksheet update the properties in the copy.

  3. Use the following guidelines to modify the copy:
    • The attached files contain sample values. Modify the parameter values according to your installation environment.
    • If you want to install both the BMC Decision Support products, you can create one common options file by using the parameters from the corresponding copy.
    • Each option must be on a single line.
    • Comment lines are allowed within the file (comments start with the # character).
    • Provide all passwords in an encrypted format.
    • The files include comments to help you understand the required parameters for the installation. You can also refer to the installation worksheets for more details about parameter requirements. The worksheet is structured for the installation wizard, but many of the  parameter guidelines will apply to a silent installation.
  4. Save the copy.
