Configuring an SMTP server


To email reports, you must configure an Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server to enable the job server destination. Complete the following procedure on the BusinessObjects Business Intelligence (BI) server (the reporting server).

To configure an SMTP server

  1. Log on to the Central Management Console as described in Accessing-the-Central-Management-Console.
  2. Click Servers and then Servers List.
  3. Locate the Adaptive Job Server and right-click it.

  4. Select Destination.
  5. Select Email from Destination and click Add.

  6. Enter the following SMTP server details:
    • Domain Name: Enter the fully qualified domain of the SMTP server.
    • Host: Enter the SMTP server host name.
    • Port: Enter the SMTP server port. The standard SMTP port is 25.
    • Authentication: Select Plain or Login, if the job server must be authenticated by using one of these methods to send email.
    • User Name: Enter the name for the user that has permission to send emails and attachments through the SMTP server.
    • Password: Enter the password for the user that has permission to send emails and attachments through the SMTP server.
    • From: Enter the return email address. Users can override this default when they schedule or send an object.
    • To: Enter the email address of the recipient. Users can override this default when they schedule or send an object.
    • Cc: Enter the recipient's email address. Users can override this default when they schedule or send an object.
    • Subject: Enter the subject text. Users can override this default when they schedule or send an object.
    • Message: Enter the message text. Users can override this default when they schedule or send an object.
    • Deliver Document(s) as Attachment: Select this option to attach a copy of the report or program instance to the email. If you use this option, use the remaining options for attachments. Users can override this default when they schedule or send an object.
      • Use Automatically Generated Name: Select this option if you want BusinessObjects BI to automatically generate a file name.
      • Use Specific Name: Select this option if you want to provide a file name, and then enter the file name.
        You can add a variable to the file name. To add a variable, select a placeholder for a variable property from the list.
