Overview of disassembling control blocks

Disassembling control blocks is useful in many data management situations, such as the following:

  • Re-creating control block source

You can save and edit the output of the disassembly process and use the statements as input to the PSBGEN or DBDGEN utility. Through this process, you can update a control block when its source code has been lost.

  • Standardizing control block format
A standard format for control blocks enhances your ability to read and maintain control block source, especially when several people are involved in creating and managing the control blocks.
