Database labels

Database Integrity creates and maintains a label for each database in the IMS system.

Each database label contains the information needed to identify a particular database, including the details about the structure of the database and the date the label was created. The label also contains the values you set for the Database Integrity processing options. Database Integrity initializes the option values with those set in the global option module. You can change the processing options for individual databases through the ISPF interface.

The label is stored in the label data set. This data set is a dedicated VSAM key-sequenced data set (KSDS). Database Integrity automatically creates a label (if one does not already exist) the first time a database is opened after Database Integrity installation. See the following figure.

If you like, you can run a batch job to create database labels for all or specific databases defined for a system. If the DBD changes, Database Integrity automatically maintains the label information. See the following figure.
