What's New in Control-M 9.0.21
The following sections describe the new features in Control-M version 9.0.21:
Control-M for Airflow
Control-M for Airflow is a new plug-in that enables you to trigger and monitor Airflow DAG runs. Every Airflow job represents a DAG run in Airflow. From the Monitoring domain, you can view all internal DAG task names, and statuses, and view any defined task variables (XCom). Control-M allows direct access to view the DAG run from the Airflow Server interface.
Control-M for Airflow enables you to do the following:
- Connect to any Airflow server from a single computer with secure login, which eliminates the need to provide authentication.
- Integrate Airflow jobs with other Control-M jobs into a single scheduling environment.
- Introduce all Control-M capabilities to Airflow, including advanced scheduling criteria, complex dependencies, lock resources, resource pools, and variables.
Additional Control-M Plug-ins
- The Control-M for Oracle E-Business Suite plug-in is now available in Control-M Web, which supports centralized connection profiles and uses the AES256-GCM cryptographic algorithm to encrypt all sensitive data.
- The Control-M for PeopleSoft plug-in is now available in Control-M Web, which supports centralized connection profiles and uses the AES256-GCM cryptographic algorithm to encrypt all sensitive data.
Control-M MFT
The following is a list of enhancements that are now available in Control-M MFT:
- You can now transfer files to and from Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Google Cloud Storage.
- You can now limit access to the File Transfer Server with an Allowed/Blocked users list.
- Internal users can now upload and download files via the Control-M MFT File Transfer Server web interface.
- You can now create a copy of an existing file on the target host.
- Control-M MFT security enhancements include TLS 1.3, new supported ciphers, algorithms, and key types. A unique default encryption key for the MFT plug-in and the File Transfer server now supports Password and Key authentication.
Control-M MFT Enterprise
The following is a list of enhancements that are now available in Control-M MFT Enterprise:
- You can now create a site, which is a specific Control-M MFT Enterprise environment with its own dedicated Hubs and Gateways. This enables you to create different environments for different departments within your organization. Each site has its own users, folders, groups, rules, settings, Hub hosts, and Gateways. You can create one site per Control-M/Server.
- You can now apply branding to the File Exchange website.
- You can now implement password policies to MFT users, set 2-factor authentication (2FA) for SFTP connections and lock out users.
- Internal users can now use the browser to connect to the Hub.
- File Exchange users can now transfer larger files, upload multiple files or folders in a single operation, and create sub-folders.
Control-M Web

Control-M Reports
You can now create the following reports:
- Notify by Mail Actions: View all folders and jobs that are defined with a Notify by mail action
- Add/Delete Events Actions: View all folders and Jobs that are defined with an Add/Delete Events action
- Change Status or Run Settings Actions: View all folder and jobs that are defined with one of the following actions:
- Set to OK
- Set to not OK
- Rerun Job
- Stop Cyclic Run
- Run Job Actions: View all folders and jobs that are defined with a Run job action
- Set Variable Actions: View all folders and jobs that are defined with a Set Variable action
- Handle Output Actions: View all jobs that are defined with a Handle Output action
Migrating Local Connection Profiles to Centralized Connection Profiles
You can now use a script to migrate multiple local connection profiles to centralized connection profiles in a single process.
For more information, see Converting to a Centralized Connection Profile.
User and Role Management
- Users and Roles are now managed in Control-M Web.
- The following new default roles are available:
- An Administrator has full access to all functionalities.
- A Team leader has partial access with the ability to manage permissions for each member of the team.
- A Viewer has view access only.
- The new User and Role Management interface is available from Control-M Web in the Configuration domain. Compatibility mode must be turned off.
- Identity Provider (IdP) support is available via SAML 2.0, in addition to LDAP. The option to associate with organizational groups enables you to associate the new role’s level of authorization with an existing IdP/LDAP security group.
- A new option to associate with organizational users enables you to define the level of authorization directly through the role by associating the role with specific users in your organizations regardless of the IdP/LDAP users’ security groups settings.
- New Interface Access allows you to define the interfaces that users associated with the role can use to access Control-M.
- Control-M authorizations are assigned to roles only, and user access is set only when the user is associated to a role.
Note: If you are upgrading from any version prior to 9.0.21, you must assign all users to a role. Previous user authorizations are carried over during an upgrade but cannot be modified. BMC recommends that you move all user authorizations to a role and assign the role to specific users to ensure that all user attributes can be managed. - New access control for Reports, API secrets, and Workflow insights.
- WCM and Self Service privileges were consolidated to Planning and Monitoring domain access.
Control-M Workflow Insights
Control-M Workflow Insights is a new add-on that enables you to improve and optimize your Control-M business workflows.
The Control-M Workflow Insights collects various Control-M workflow metrics into a new offline Elasticsearch cluster, and exposes a new Workflow Insights domain in the Control-M Web client that enables customers to track and monitor business workflow metrics over time via various dashboards.
The following lists the dashboards that you can view in Workflow Insights:
- Workflow Health
- Workflow Trends and Peak Volumes
- Workflow Distribution
- Workflow Alerts
- Workflow Definition Updates
- SLA Management Services
- Optimization Insights
- Job Executions
These insights enable you to stay in control of your business workflows performance over time, set KPIs and track them, to ensure continuous improvement. For more information about using Workflow Insights, see Workflow Insights Overview. For more information about installing and configuring Workflow Insights, see Installing Workflow Insights and Configuring Workflow Insights.
Control-M Workload Archiving
- You can now install an additional Workload Archiving server for High Availability, which improves Workload Archiving performance.
- Control-M Workload Archiving now collects a specific rerun in the cyclic log and includes jobs marked as Set to OK in the job log.
Control-M Core Scheduling
You can now do the following:
- Create a dedicated sub-folder that references an existing SMART folder or a specific job within a SMART folder or sub-folder when you create a workflow in the Planning domain
- Set dynamic folders and Jobs post processing logic based on a variable value in the If-Action section.
- Set a late submission notification for any cyclic folder and job future interval.
- Set Smart folders Adjust Event field to Bridge to instruct the Control-M/Server to bridge missing prerequisite Events automatically.
- Set the Run Job and Ignore Scheduling Criteria action in folders and Jobs to run as an independent flow.
Control-M Application Integrator
Control-M Application Integrator has been redesigned and is now integrated into Control-M Web.
