Deploying SmartSwitch rules


You can deploy rules from a SmartSwitch view to one or more subsystems. For example, you can deploy a set of rules that you tested on a test subsystem to all of your subsystems. The deploy process copies the selected SmartSwitch rules to the target subsystems.

To deploy SmartSwitch rules

New console
  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a SmartSwitch view
  2. In the results pane, select one or more rules from the rules table. 
  3. Click Deploy rules NW_file_arrow_right.png.
  4. In the Deploy DB2 Utility SmartSwitch Rules dialog box, perform the following tasks:
    1. In the Name field, accept the default name provided or provide a name for the deployment.
      The name can contain up to 50 characters, including all printable ASCII characters.
    2. Select one or more Db2 subsystem connections as targets for the deployment.

      Tip

       You can select to show only your favorites.

    3. Select whether to continue if an error occurs for a selected Db2 subsystem.
      • Clearing the check box stops the deployment immediately.
      • Selecting the check box continues the deployment with the next Db2 subsystem.
    4. Click Next.
  5. From the SmartSwitch rule list, you can clear any rules that you do not want to deploy.If BMC AMI Command Center detects a connection problem in a target Db2 subsystem the application:
    • removes the check box on each of the affected rows in the list. Hover the cursor over any row without a check box for additional information about the connection problem.
    • displays an error message in the lower left-hand corner of the wizard, which identifies the Db2 subsystem that has a connection problem.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Review the summary of the rule deployment, then click Finish

    • The deployment view is displayed under Deployment in the navigation pane.
    • The Rule List and Results tabs are displayed in the results pane.

      You can see details of the deployment processing on the results tab.

  8. (Optional) Perform the following actions to save the deployment report in a folder of your choice:
    1. Click View report NW_file_text_o.png.
    2. Click Save report NW_floppy.png.

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a SmartSwitch view
  2. In the results pane, select one or more rules from the rules table. 
  3. Click Deploy Rules deploy-24.png.

    Tip

    You can also right-click in the results pane to select this action.

  4. In the Deploy DB2 Utility SmartSwitch Rules dialog box, perform the following tasks:
    1. In the Name field, accept the default name provided or provide a name for the deployment.

    2. Select one or more Db2 subsystem connections as targets for the deployment.

    • replaces the check box with a notification (g_gud_status_major.png) icon on each of the affected rows in the list.
    • displays an error message in the lower left-hand corner of the wizard, which identifies the DB2 subsystem that has a connection problem. Click MessageManager-24.png for additional information about the connection problem.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Review the summary of the rule deployment, then click Finish

    • The deployment view is displayed under Deployment in the navigation pane.
    • The Rule List and Results tabs are displayed in the results pane.

      You can see details of the deployment processing on the results tab.

  8. (Optional) Click Report report-24.pngto save the deployment report in a folder of your choice.

To deploy SmartSwitch rules using an existing deployment view

Use this procedure to redeploy SmartSwitch deployment rules that have already been defined in a deployment view. For example, you might have corrected a Db2 issue that previously prevented the rules from being deployed.

New console
  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a SmartSwitch view from the navigation pane.
    The  results pane is populated with the Rule List and Results tabs. 
  2. Click Deploy rules  NW_file_arrow_right.png.
  3. Select one or more DB2 subsystem connections to which you want to deploy the rules.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the Rules list, select one or more rules that you want to deploy.

    Tip

    Use the check box at the top of the first column to clear or select all records from the list.

  6. Click Finish.
  7. (Optional) Perform the following actions Click Report report-24.pngto save the deployment report in a folder of your choice:
    1. Click View report NW_file_text_o.png.
    2. Click Save report NW_floppy.png.

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a SmartSwitch view from the navigation pane.
    The  results pane is populated with the Rule List and Results tabs. 
  2. Click Deploy rules  deploy-24.png.
  3. Select one or more DB2 subsystem connections to which you want to deploy the rules.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the Rules list, select one or more rules that you want to deploy.

    Tip

    You can toggle between g_gud_AllSelected.png to clear all rules and ClearAll.png to select all rules from the list.

  6. Click Finish.
  7. (Optional) Click Report report-24.pngto save the deployment report in a folder of your choice.
