Creating and editing object sets

You can create an entirely new object set or create one based on an existing object set.

In BMC AMI Command Center, you must create an object set within an object set view. The object set is saved to the Db2 subsystem's object set database. The object set is then available to other BMC products.

Note

If you cannot see the Product Tools perspective, click Layout and add the perspective to the layout. For more information, see Managing a workspace layout.

Tip

In the DB2 Navigator perspective (Classic console), you can view the definition of an object set by clicking on the toolbar.

To create an object set

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, click the Add view  menu arrow, and then click Add Object Set View.

    Tip

    The default value of the Add view menu is always the last option that you created.

  2. In the Add Object Set View dialog box, select a Db2 Connection from your list of favorite connections.

    Tip

    You can add Db2 connections to your list of favorite connections by clicking and specifying which connections to include.

  3. In the Object set filter field, enter a filter and click OK.
  4. In the results pane, click Add object set .
  5. In the results pane on the Specifications tab, complete the following fields:

    Field

    Description

    Object set

    Enter a name for the object set.

    Description

    (Optional) Enter a description of the object set.

  6. To add specifications to the object set, click Add specification .

  7. In the Add Object Set Specification dialog, enter information for the specifications needed.
    For more information, see the following topics:

    Tip

    At any time, you can click to revert to the last saved object set definition.

  8. (Optional) To reorder the display of the object specifications, click the up and down arrows .
  9. (Optional) To copy an object specification, click Copy Specification .
  10. Click Save Object Set .

    The object is saved to the DB2 subsystem's object set database.

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select an Object Set View.

    Tip

    You can also right-click in the navigation pane to select this action.

    The default value of the Add View menu is always the last option that you created.

  2. In the results pane, select an object set.

  3. Click Copy object set .

  4. In the results pane, complete the following fields:

    Field

    Description

    Object Set

    Enter a name for the object set.

    Description

    ( Optional ) Enter a description of the object set.

  5. To add specifications to the object set, click Add Specification :
    1. Click + and - to toggle between included objects or excluded objects.
    2. Click the Select Object Type menu arrow, and select an object type.
    3. Enter a filter for the object type. You can use a name, or use the * and % wildcards.
    4. Select how you want partitions included in the object set:

      Option

      Description

      By space

      Include partitioned objects at index space or table space level. All partitions are included.

      By partition

      Include partitioned objects by partition. All partitions are included.

      By range

      Include a specific range of partitions.

    5. If you selected By range, select a beginning and end of the partition range.

      Note

      If you select By space or By partition, these fields are dimmed.

    6. Click Show Details to access the Object Set Specification Details dialog box, which displays two tabs:

      • The Object List tab, which lets you specify objects from the object list for exclusion. To specify objects for exclusion:

        1. In the Included Objects pane, select objects for exclusion.

        2. Click Add.

        3. Click OK.

          An excluded group of objects is created.

      • The Related Objects tab, which lets you specify related objects for inclusion.

    Tip

    At any time, you can click to revert to the last saved object set definition.

  6. (Optional)To reorder the display of the object specifications click the up and down arrows .
  7. (Optional) To copy an object specification, click Copy Specification .
  8. Click Save Object Set .

    The object is saved to the DB2 subsystem's object set database.

To create an object set by using an existing object set

Tip

You can use this procedure to copy and then make changes to an object set that was defined in another product (for example, BMC AMI Recover).

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, click the Add View  menu arrow, and click Add Object Set View.

    Tip

    The default value of the Add View menu is always the last option that you created.

  2. In the Add Object Set View dialog box, select a Db2 Connection from your list of favorite connections.

    Tip

    You can add Db2 connections to your list of favorite connections by clicking and specifying which connections to include.

  3. In the Add Object Set View dialog box, enter an Object set filter and click OK.
  4. In the results pane, navigate to and select an existing object set.
  5. In the results pane, click Copy object set .

  6. In the results pane, update the following fields:

    FieldDescription
    Object setUpdate the name of the object set.
    Description(Optional) Enter a description of the object set.
  7. To add specifications to the object set, click Add specification .

  8. In the Add Object Set Specification dialog box, enter information for the specifications needed. For more information, see the following topics:


    Tip

    You can click at any time to revert to the last saved object set definition.

  9. (Optional) To reorder the display of the object specifications click the up and down arrows .
  10. (Optional) To copy an object specification, click Copy Specification .
  11. Click Save Object Set .

    The object is saved to the DB2 subsystem's object set database.

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, click the Add View  menu arrow, and click  Add Object Set View.

    Tip

    You can also right-click in the DB2 navigation pane to select this action.

    The default value of the Add View menu is always the last option that you created.

  2. In the Add Object Set View dialog box, select Create Like Object Set.
  3. Select a Db2 Connection, and click OK.

    Use either of the following methods:

    • Type the full or partial name of a Db2 connection to select the first subsystem that matches this value in the list of favorite connections.

    • Use the menu arrow to select from your list of favorite connections.

      Tip

      You can add Db2 connections to your list of favorite connections by clicking and specifying which connections to include.

  4. Navigate to and select an existing object set.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the Object Set field, change the object set name.
  7. Follow the instructions from Step 5.

To edit an object set

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, click the Add View  menu arrow, and click Add Object Set View.

    Tip

    The default value of the Add View menu is always the last option that you created.

  2. In the Add Object Set View dialog box, select a Db2 Connection from your list of favorite connections.

    Tip

    You can add Db2 connections to your list of favorite connections by clicking and specifying which connections to include.

  3. In the Add Object Set View dialog box, enter an Object set filter and click OK.

  4. In the results pane, navigate to and select an existing object set.

  5. To add specifications to the object set, click Add specification .

  6. In the Add Object Set Specification dialog box, enter information for the specifications needed. For more information, see the following topics:

  8. (Optional) To copy an object specification, click Copy Specification .
  9. Click Save Object Set .

  5. Click OK.
  6. Follow the instructions from Step 5.
