Starting, stopping, and shutting down a server in the legacy console
From the Servers linkbar on the My Services tab, you can stop, start, or shut down server instances.
Note
On physical servers, the Start, Stop, and Shutdown buttons are not supported and are disabled.
To start or stop a server
- From the list of servers on the Servers linkbar on the My Services tab, highlight the server that you want to start or stop.
- Choose one of these methods to perform the action:
- Click the Start or the Stop .
- Click the Operator Action and select the action (Start or Stop).
- Right-click the server and choose the action from the pop-up menu.
A prompt bar at the top of the Service Instances pane displays an informational message that shows the action is in progress.
Note
If you stop a running virtual machine (VM) by using VCenter instead of by using the Stop operator action of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, refreshing the service instances list does not refresh the status of the stopped VM. Although the VM is stopped, the Runtime Status still shows the status as Running. Using the Stop operation action avoids this status inaccuracy.
To shut down a server
The shutdown command performs a "soft shutdown" in which all data is saved before the VM is powered off.
Note
- This command is support only on VMware VMs.
- This command requires that VMs have the VMware Tools installed.
- From the list of servers on the Servers linkbar on the My Services tab, highlight the server that you want to shut down.
- Choose one of the following to shut down the server:
- Click the Shutdown button.
- Click the Operator Action and select Shutdown.
- Right-click the server and choose the action from the pop-up menu.
A prompt bar at the top of the Service Instances pane displays an informational message that shows the action is in progress.
