BMC Server Automation environment high availability
The BMC Server Automation environment consists of a few components, and for a highly available deployment all these components need to have redundancy built in.
The application servers in the BMC Server Automation system are capable of handling failures of individual job or configuration servers. BMC recommends that deployments be designed with redundant application servers to ensure that the service can continue to perform as required if a single node fails. The following deployment options are available:
- Multiple application servers can be deployed for redundancy. The system ensures that work is shared among the multiple instances as required.
- The application servers can be assigned special purposes, with specific instances serving as job servers while others serve as configuration servers. The load on the configuration servers can be distributed using a load balancer. The load balancer also ensures that if a single instance fails, users are directed to another instance.
- The job servers can manage the work.
In addition to the application server, other tiers should also be considered for redundancy to ensure system availability. The file server and PXE/TFTP servers should also be redundant to ensure their functionality continues to be available in case a single node fails.
