Set global options

You can use the ISPF interface to create a global options module.

You can also create a global options module in batch, as explained in CAPPARMS sample. You should understand the hierarchy of the different global options modules and how they can influence processing before creating more than the module named CAPPARMS. Detail about the types of global options modules is in Customizing after installation. The keywords used in the modules and shown on the ISPF panels in this topic are documented in CAPSYSIN keywords.

Select option 2 from the primary menu to access panels that let you set global options. The Global Options panel is displayed. See Global Options. Detail information on global options and global options modules is covered in Customizing after installation.

The internal global option defaults are carefully chosen to be optimal for most installations. You cannot change these default values, but you can override them by creating a user-defined global options module or by using keywords on control statements.

To override the internal defaults, create your own default options module by typing PARMS in the Options suffix field on the Global Options panel. This suffix is automatically prefixed with CAP to create the global options module name (CAPPARMS). When you create this module, all the internal global option defaults are initially selected. Go through the panels and set your own default values, then save the CAPPARMS global options module.

From this point forward, your default options are those set up in CAPPARMS. If you need to create a set of options different from those in CAPPARMS and the internal defaults, access the Global Options panel, and specify a new option suffix name using any alphanumeric combination up to four characters in length. Your selected name is automatically prefixed with CAP@ to create the global options module name (CAP@xxxx). The panels are primed with the values specified in the CAPPARMS global options module. Change whatever values you wish, then save the new global options module, using the new option suffix.

To use the internal global options defaults again, you must delete the CAPPARMS global options module.

You can delete a global options module by using the ISPF interface. Select the Utilities option from the ISPF/PDF Primary Option menu. Then select the Library Utility option from the Utility selection menu. Type the global options library data set name and the module name you want to delete in the appropriate fields. Select option D and press Enter.
