Viewing datasets and metrics by dataset and ETL module
The Datasets & metrics page provides an overview of all the metrics – By Dataset and By ETL Module – that your TrueSight Capacity Optimization installation is able to collect and classify. You can access this page by navigating to Administration > Data Warehouse > Datasets & metrics.
The page contains two tabs – By Dataset and By ETL Module.
In each tab, metrics are grouped in homogeneous sets called datasets. To easily browse this list, you can filter the By Dataset tab on a particular dataset by using the Dataset drop-down, and the By ETL Module tab by using the ETL Module and System type drop-downs.
For more information, see:
To view datasets by the By Dataset tab
The By Dataset tab displays the Metrics table. The metrics table in the By Dataset tab is filtered by default on all datasets. To filter it on a particular Dataset, use the Datasets drop-down list.
The Metrics table in the By Dataset tab displays the following information for each metric.
Column | Description |
---|---|
Add metric | Enables you to add a (custom) metric. See To add a metric. |
Name | Name of the metric as saved in TrueSight Capacity Optimization. |
Label | Extended (full) name of the metric. |
Description | Short description of the metric. |
Valtype | The Counter and Absolute Value of the metric. |
Dataset | The predefined dataset that the metric belongs to. |
Package | The metric can be categorized into any one of the following categories:
|
Unit | The measurement unit of the metric. |
Level | Indicates the amount of metric to be imported into the data warehouse. |
Edit | Click to edit a (custom) metric. Only Custom metrics can be edited. |
Delete | Click to delete a (custom) metric. Only Custom metrics can be deleted. |

To add a metric
To add a custom metric to TrueSight Capacity Optimization, perform the following task:
- Navigate to Administration > Data Warehouse > Datasets & metrics > By Dataset and click Add metric.
In the Add metric page, enter values for the following properties:
Property Description Resname Type a name for your custom metric, as you would like for it to be saved in TrueSight Capacity Optimization database. Resname should include uppercase letters, numbers or an underscore character. It must start with Uppercase character and end with the _C suffix. Name An extended name (label) for your metric. Description (Optional but recommended) Add a brief description. Structure Select the structure to give to the metric you are adding: Business Driver, Domain, or System. Dataset Select a predefined dataset to associate your metric to. Valtype Select the Counter and Absolute Value for your metric. Direction Select a direction for your metric. For details, see Metrics. Measurement unit Select a measurement unit or add a custom unit. For details, see Metrics. - Click Save.
To view datasets by the By ETL Module tab
The By ETL Module tab displays the Metrics table. This table contains detailed information and description about each metric that is populated in your TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance by all or a particular ETL module (that you select).
The metrics table in this tab is filtered by default on all ETL Modules and System Types. To filter it on a particular ETL Module or System Type, use the appropriate drop-down filter.
The Metrics table in the By ETL Module tab displays the following information for each metric.
Column | Description |
---|---|
Name | Name of the metric as saved in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization. |
Label | Extended (full) name of the metric. |
Description | Short description of the metric. |
ETL module | Full name of the ETL module |
System type | The type of system the selected ETL is associated with. |
Operating System | The metric can be categorized into any one of the following categories:
|
Extended Description | Extended information about the metric, such as retrieval information, and so on. |
Additional details for the metric | Click to view additional details about a metric. These details include Source type, Source map, and so on. |
